Is it financially viable ; IE does it stomp the crap through a 5 port head that has been ported a fair bit?

It has something bigass 5 ports do not, it's called torque. Sure U can coax 150-160HP from a 5 port, but it won't last, or be street drivable- you need big cams to get this power, with a 5 port..

i would have thought so, but i would also think that dur to he head being more efficient it would make for not only more power but probably a nicer, smoother drive? less cam required to make the bhp if you get my idea?

Yes that is the idea, Dean's was drivable (just) on street at 165HP, it's got a bit tamer cam in now.

And out of curiosity, how much would it cost for assembled head, extractors, and carbs.

Head comes with all bits, and the header pipes for the 4 port extractors. Just need to weld em. Carb setup- Webers or Dellos bolt on, you supply.
Not sure of exact pricing but cheap compared to Arden 8 port, which I've been told are not real good right now.

Neither of those heads perform as well as the current Elder does, from what I have heard here.
Arden one is having its port patterns redeveloped now, so they will work like the old ones used to.

the arden seems to be tricky to fit too, having to fiddle with the valve gear and push rods, at lest with the elder, as far as i can tell, you can use standard mini setups. i suppose one advantage of the akm is that you can use standard extractors/maniflold gasket, then again, if you can afford the head and the induction, then the extractors shouldnt really concern.
the elder also comes with a cool rocker cover :P

Yes the Elder has standard Mini valve layout, funny camlobe assignment not needed.
Problem on the AKM is they have made the ports setup to bolt Webers on head directly, so the inlet port shapes are weird. And too big, I believe.

ok, elder head is priced at arround $3250, ready to bolt on, plus $325 for extractors, thats a damm good price compared to the price of a bare arden.

Just wanted to bump this thread to say that jbeenz prices seem to still be current, I rang today as I'm seriously looking into this for an injected turbo setup.
