One other question. Can you put an 1100 crank in the 1275? TK mentions it in his for sale thread.

a 998 or 1100 crank will not fit in a 1275. The latter has 2" mains, the 1100 has 1.75" mains.

The only 1100 that has 2" mains is the later A/H Sprite, but it's a north south crank.

No I don't

Maybe your getting confused with my South African 1100 crank that is for sale? That will fit a 1275.

Do the Morris 1300 (1100S), run the same gear changing mechanism as a mini? I guess the diff is different for bigger wheels and presume the remote/rod mechanism is different as well.

in regard to 998/1098's struggling up hills...HAHAHAHAHA!!!! My totally stock 998 LOVES hills...I was amazed at first, but I can climb a winding hill in 3rd easily! I drive one particularly steep, hilly road every day, and never feel inadequate :P

Umm
The 1100s runs a slightly different remote change - its different in that it runs a sandwich plate btween the remote and the gearbox. The mini K, deluxe etc didn't run that plate, but they all can be made to fit.

The morris 1300 is a later model and although I am not sure, I think it has a rod change mechanism.

Doc ?????

However, just about all motor models can be made to bolt to all gearbox types. Most just simply bolt up.

Yes and no.
It's a remote shift, but there is a rubber sandwich plate between the remote and diff housing. This is to ensure the shift is as imprecise and rubbery as possible.:)
You can get a steel sandwich plate from MiniMania site, or, swap to a Mini remote and diff housing.
Also, these are only 3 synchro boxes, not 4 synchro.

Morris 1300 were all autos, they came out same time as the largely unlamented Morris 1500 5 speed manual. Which had an early cable linkage... :x

But Anton, Lillee's 1098 is not just "adequate" she accelerates up hills! I drive the back streets of Lane Cove to work twice a week and there are some very steep hills there, no problems at all! other cars have trouble

I too asked this question about 1275 or 1100 build, I decided on the 1275 build. But secretly, I really do like my 1100 and don't plan on selling it. On the contrary, keep it as a spare for that immaculate mini K rebuild later in life (including this rocket prepelled GR 12G295 head)

for a 998 or 1100 to make the same power as a standard 1275, it really needs to be a screamer, and the build is going to cost more than to build a standard 1275.... so if you want to spend the $$ to build a screamer, wait for a 1275 and make that scream - easy

put it this way too - my S was running like crap at the dyno day in sydney last year, first run it wouldn't go over 4500rpm, and was just below the top 1100 on hp, I fixed the plug and points gap and then pulled 5hp more that the top 1100 - the motor is now sitting under the bench waiting for a rebuild cos it's out of compression and oil pressure, as it was when it was on the dyno

point made... ;)

Hi - 1275 are the ultimate prospect :P

nothing has changed - money spent for performance gained is far better and will give you at the end more satisfaction.

Don't get me wrong - small bore motors can achieve great results however compared to a 1275 it is really academic as the 1275 output is easily tapped into

Greig...

GR also told me that the 12g head is just too big for any small bore. His words not mine, I know a lot of people are doing it.

If I have not found the right 1275 by the time I finish all the body work (hopefully have a lot more done after this long weekend) I will probably continue with the 1100 rebuild. I can alway put it in Bromley later in life.

Wait out for my future threads on gearboxes etc :D

Hmmm... having owned a 1220 years ago with Imp pistons, a 544 cam, twin HS4s and a 12G940, all I can say is it went, like shite off a shovel. 8)
