Hello guys,
I need some advice. Beefa has extractors on him and Ive been told that one side of the manifold has to be cut to put them on...which would explain the flat spot issue with the 1.25' carby (which apparentl hes supposed to have 1.5').

Should I keep the extratcors or give them to hubby and swap him for the normal manifold?
If I swap will there be a loss in power or fuel economy?
Will I lose the nice ass note that my exhaust system has?

Thanks,

Lynda

By 'one side of the manifold has to be cut' I'm assuming you're refering to the inlet manifold not the exhaust manifold (the extractors).. What inlet manifold are you fitting? I've had twin SU's on mine with extractors and now a dellorto with extractors.. Both the SU and the dellorto manifold needed a bit of cutting and shaving in the area around the head studs to fit, nothing major..

If it's the same for you, just a little trimming, then I'd keep the extractors. They give you more power, not too sure about fuel economy.

The guy at Minisrus told me. He reckons my car should have a water heated manifold and get rid of the extractors becuase thats why I have the flat spot.

I dunno what extractors and inlet manifold Im running, it was on the car when I brought him.
I will take some pics as soon as I can (its pissing down rain here and I dont fancy laying on the ground to jack him up!)

If you were in the UK i would say you would need a water heated Manifold, Even with the Melbourne weather you don't need one, I think he is just tryig to sell you something you don;t need

At this point, i would personally assume that the fuel needle is incorrect (and possibly the ignition timing too). It is most likely that the current extractors and manifold were fitted but the car wasn't re-tuned to suit them.

Thats just MY opinion of course......

Change mechanic.

Upgrade to a 1.5" carbie.

Keep extractors.

Get car tuned.

Just my thoughts.

You will need a new inlet manifold if you change from 1.25" HS2 to a 1.5" HS4. Just get a late Clubman manifold and chop the exhaust part off so you can use it with your extractors.

Stupid HS numbering system:
HS2: 1" + 2/8" = 1.25"
HS4: 1" + 4/8" = 1.5"

Note: the bolt pattern is different, so you must use the larger manifold

Would the extractors give the car serious flat spots (besides the fact that I've probably got a f**ked carby  )?
