Hi, can anyone tell me what's the better carbie option to maximise mini engine performance? Is it using a weber or an su? What are the benefits, differences or downside of either option? What size su or weber is best?

998/1100 stock to medium mods - 1.5" SU
998/1100 high mods (hot cam, hot head, extractors) - 1.5" SU, 1.75" SU or twin 1.25" SU

Standard 1275 - 1.5" SU, 1.75" SU or twin 1.25" SU's
1275 medium mods - 1.75" SU, twin 1.25" SU's
Hot 1275 - 1.75" SU, twin 1.25" SU's, twin 1.5" SU's, 45 Weber

I had a 40DHLA dell'orto on my stock 1098, it went great and sounded nice. Had I put in a slightly warmer cam, duplex timing chain and maybe a little bit of head work it would have gone very well. Does use a bit more petrol, but on a Dell'orto you can manually adjust the accelerator pump which probably helps. The trick is to have it jetted properly (ie on a dyno), or else likely as not you'll just wash your rings with petrol.

Yeah, but only if it's in a high state of tune. Mate of mine has a hot 1275 (100hp odd I think) and he upgraded from a 1.75" SU to a 45DCOE on a 6" manifold, it made a fair difference. But he's like me, he likes the noise of a weber
