there are some great people in both clubs, hotbricks was created from a dispute with members within miniclub like 20 or 30 years ago and there is some rivalry between the clubs though most of the people from back then are gone.
i enjoy the laid back atmosphere of hotbricks, especially the informal cruises which are always enjoyable and well run. Some members and former members take things way too seriously and there are some seriously grumpy old farts.
on the other hand
mini club sa is more formal and politically correct : they run their cruises through cams.
and they can seem to be a bit cliquey and have a tight knit group of regulars with a large contingent of members who join for historic rego and nothing else.
both clubs are regularly involved with various forms of motorsport including
mainly motorkhanas and also sprints, road rallies, historic touring car, hillclimb, and improved production.
i'd say hotbricks tends to have more extremely modified minis, hence the name.
Some such cars have and currently include a toyota starlet powered mini, turbo mokes, supercharged saloons etc, and there is a wealth of engineering knowledge to be shared.
hotbricks is associated with "morris mania" which is run by one of hotbricks more obvious members
and
miniclub is close with "minitech motors" with its previous owner being a member.
both clubs run an annual show,
originally there was only one show, which miniclub didnt want to run anymore so gave it to hotbricks to run, hotbricks turned this into minis at the mill. after awhile mini club decided to run the event again and this is called minis at the bay
and thats why theres 2.
minis at the mill has an entry fee of $10 or something, which also includes entry to the national motor museum where the last mini made in australia sits in mint condition,
minis at the bay is free and open to the public, being at wigley reserve at glenelg within walking distance of all the shops and pubs etc.
minis at the mill has usually had a better turnout, but in 2006 minis at the bay also had a huge turnout.
in addition a lot of BINIs came, which miniclub are strongly focusing on at the moment, bringing BINI drivers into their club and on the cruises.
A few hotbricks members also regularly compete in BINI's.
the miniclub also always runs the "Hay mini nationals" every year (except for one year i think) , which includes a show and shine and a dirt motorkhana event which controversially allowed non minis to score points but now still allows non minis to compete and win trophies!!

but not score any points to the overall winners trophy presented to the club with the most points scored across the "classes" which include 1275, 1100, 998 and overall placings.
