I know this has been done extensively but i have just got myself so confused searching through all the posts. I basically understand that you just make up a bracket to mount the caliper but I have 4 questions.

1. Will I fit 12" Superlites over the top of them.

2. Can i use the Mini drum Hub and drum Flange?

3. Do i use the Camira Disk? How much (if any) difference between the PCD's?

4. Will i have to bend my Caliper Mount Plate to be in the right position.

Well technically thats 5 questions...

1. They will fit but i think you have to take a bit off the calliper to get clearence??

3. Use the camira 9.2" vented discs and i think you have to drill a new pcd to suit the mini one??

Sorry dont know the rest of the answers

I saw a set of Camiras the other day (dunno who modded them) where the adaptor plates had been WELDED to the drum type Mini swivel hubs.
This is really a no-no, as the Mini swivel hub is not steel, it's a type of cast iron. Any welding here is bad news.
Anyhow, welding of brake components generally is frowned upon, and I think illegal now.

I have a problem with the concept of fitting non standard discs for every day road use. Its not as though there a shortage of factory made discs and these do just bolt up and run.

I am simply uncomfortable with the standard of engineering in a lot of cases and it could be one of mine that is in front of the mini when the driver stabs at the brakes.

I wouldn't be using any disc setup that involves the drum hub.
I sort of wonder if the brakes grab hard enough would the three small (smaller than calliper ones anyway) hold up or shear and destroy the system? :?

The rotational force on these 3 bolts is the adhesion limit of the tyre.
It is easy to lock front wheels with drum brakes, so IMO these bolts are adequate.
They are bigger than you think, at 5/16" diameter- and there are 3 of them.
They are Grade 5 bolts, which I think have a shear stress of 170,000psi.
Somebody with a degree can do the sums  , but really there is no more force on them with discs than there would be with the standard drum backplate. 8)

What is it you are saying ?? its a satisfactory system ???? - I am not being contentious or argumentive, just curious.

I have helped App J people put mercedes brakes on EH holdens etc but these ad hoc systems just simply have me concerned

Value your conceptual opinions

Mike,
I just responded to Harley's comment about the adequacy of bolting the caliper mount plate on.
I take your point about Mini discs being preferable.

I'm not saying the concept of aftermarket disc brakes is right or wrong, there are $$$ reasons why people do it. Not everybody can afford $1500+ for a set of S discs, or a little less for 8.4s.

I have done a few Honda Civics in the past, but no more. I believe the standard Civic 9.1" conversion with 12" wheels is OK for street use, but not turning them down to 7.9" and cramming them into 10s.... linishing calipers and cutting brake pads to make fit.

So I'm going to go with drum hubs and drum flange. I've already got these with new bearings and seals etc. I'll go out and buy some camira rotors and calipers from the wreckers, modify the PCD a bit.The mini has 4" (101.6mm) and the Camira has 100mm. I'm going to make up a caliper mount bracket that wll bolt onto the drum hub. Find out where i have to grind the caliper a bit. Get the angle grinder out. Attack. Give it a good paint. And then put in all together.

How does that sound?

I'm running one of the set's that kev made on my clubby. I had leaky drums on the front that were stuffed so the concern i think of having these fail and someone running up your rear is alot less of a concern with them on then without.

They stop brilliantly and will out stop any factory disc braked mini, except maybe 4pot metro's.

I have tested? them now for maybe 2years and have not had a single problem with countless abuse (alot of people see how i treat them) including plenty of track time and they had no fade at all and never complained.

Now i do not believe that most people putting these on will treat them as harsh as i do so i can't see any problem as long as the quality of the work is up to scratch.

I'm putting in a 4EFTE and aiming to push 200HP through the front wheels. No way am i going to trust them with that kind of power though as the drum cv's were originally designed for what..25HP at the wheels?

Hence why i am upgrading to vented 6pots (i have money now - the honda setup cost me 10% of what an S setup would have) but these brakes will be going on my moke.
