Good opportunity for anyone thinking of having a run in the street car category to come on along and have a toe in the water exercise by running a practice day.

Brian, I reckon you could have a couple of hybrid street cars wanting to have a shot if you can relax the rules some way for the Starlet Turbos. Maybe only for street cars running DOT tyres

There would be a few starlet guys wanting to have a go at any stage..

These are all street trim cars, ie..not lightweight sports sedans.

We'd run street tires.

and you allow forced induction in class B?
Quote:
"Class A - Hybrid.
Free to install any engine, gearbox or differential. However, engines cannot exceed 2000cc and must not be fitted with any form of forced induction, and gearboxes are restricted to no more than 5 forward gears.

Class B - Crossflow.
A crossflow or other non-standard cylinder head on a mass-produced BMC/Leyland A Series engine block. Must utilise the standard Mini BMC/Leyland gearbox/differential casing incorporating either standard or after-market gears. Cars in this class may be fitted with forced induction and must, accordingly, carry the increased minimum weight as per CAMS rules. "

I wouldn't even care if we're not in the running for a trophy or points etc...just a chance to get out there and have a go with some other mini's...

We will be reviewing the rules at the end of the season as we do every year. The reason that we havn't allowed over two litre super or turbo charged cars is that we are trying to stop people building rocket ships by working the engines & screwing up the boost. If any of you with starlet motors in your Mini's would like to come down & run the practise day we would be able to evalueate the cars.

An alterative to the Wakefield meeting is to enter your Starlet Mini's in the Sports Sedan & invited catagory that we are also running on the same day & the last race of the day will have the Sports Sedans & Mini's combined.

I used to love watching the super minis (and the 1000's). I'm pretty sure this category fell over due to the expense of mini's competing with hybrids and I don't think the MRA would like this to happen again.

From what I see, the purpose of this new race series was to allow the old super minis a platform of equal competition, sort of reviving what we had.

The only thing I would change is to add the class to the results on the website.

Keep up the good work guys.

Daniel

Daniel you are 100 % correct about what we are trying to do. I take your point about the class classifactions on the results & we will change the web page for all future race meetings Thanks for your input.

You have Borgy's VTEC and the 2L celica powered orange thing...they are basically stripped out spaceframed full blown hybrid race cars...

We are talking about street trim (800+Kg) Conventional Suspensioned 1.3L turbo's that probably wont even lap as quick as the full blown 5porter racer's..

You can always run them in another class...more mini's out there the better i say.

I'll try and get a couple of them down there for the practice ;)

The hybreds that we have racing with us are under two litre & normally asperated & have a lot of other restrictions in there class to stop them from becoming to quick. If you can bring some down & either run in the practise sessions or race with the Div two Sport Sedans we can the evaluate them for next season. The cars must have a minimum of a half roll cage race harness etc.If anyone wants to race please email me & i will email an entry form & what saftey equipmet they need to you.

In that case they should be doing better than under 2L IPRA times, 1:08, they are not so I don't think that's a fair assumption (or maybe not driven on the limit)?

I was merely reflecting on the reasons why I thought the rules have been set, not to remove your opportunity to lobby MRA for inclusion.

I was at the East-West Mini challenge (in 97?) with all sorts of mini's on track and watched as Warwick Augustin pulled a rumoured 240+ down Eastern creeks main straight in his N/A Toyota powered hybrid.

The only thing close to that speed was a crazy little white turbo A-series from Melbourne that drove itself into the pit wall after the driveshaft broke, the scariest thing I think I've seen.

This impressive speed display from Warwick meant he ended up miles in front by the end of the race, unfortuately it may also have been the demise of super mini's....
