Has anyone tried replacing their rubber cones with coil springs?

Do a search on here and on minimania.. one of the problems I remember off my head was they can fall out of place.. Generally either people love them or hate them.. I say if you have the money give them a go, if not don't waste your money, rubber cones are already proven. Even just putting in brand new rubber cones, will improve handling if your old ones are a bit worn... so I've heard..

I have seen some in the photos taken at Delta Mini that have a second, soft spring to keep the assembly fom falling out. Similar two-spring arrangement to the Eibach setup used in coilover applications.

Also, so a search on here, a lot has been written about those springs.

I reckon the discussion was one of those that disappeared when Ausmini went down. Bummer.

Short answer:
These springs can fall out unless some form of droop stop is used, like shocks with shortede extended length. Could try to tie them in...

It is very difficult to make a spring of this geometry accuratley so the spring rate may vary from unit to unit. Depends on quality of manufacture.

Max has found that mini-spares(sport??) springs fail from brand new!

A failure would be bad - I want something ultra reliable. I've got new "rally" rubber cones and they are good but they are very harsh. I need it to be pretty firm as my car us used to road rally / hill climb etc - but I thought the spring might give me better grip levels.

Main problem with these springs I've heard is that as they are only 1 or 2 coils, they have hardly any spring rate compared to rubber cones. I doubt they would survive rallying.....
I'd go on MiniMania forum and see which ones (green, red, whatever) people are running.
