I had my trailer custom built last month, wasn't cheap but was worth every dollar.

I used a double axies trailer not long ago and when driving down the freeway I noticed that a lot of the single axies trailers I saw on the motorway being trailered swayed quiet a lot at 100kph. At the time I was doing 120kph-130kph (I know its not the legal speed limit) but the double axies trailer was smooth the whole way.

K Man,

that looks like a nice trailer. How about a few details/more and bigger pics. Does it have ramps built in etc?

The trailer is 1.6m wide internally and the sides are 160mm high so it is easy to get the doors open, the ramps are 2100mm long in steel and slide directly under the the deck. All you need to pull them out is two spring clips and two split pins.

The front rail sits lower in the centre front to allow the sump to clear and the front tyres rest against the raised sections. I also had nuts holes drilled and nuts welded underneath for custom made"tyrebelts" which sit over the tyre and bolt to the deck for both front tyres and one rear so I can tow either the van or sedan. Also got tie down points in all corners with enough space to use ratchet straps if needed.

I chose to go for brand new 13inch perforance alloy wheels with light truck tyres, just to keep the trailer low so the car doesn't bottom out.

Cheers

Does the maker still have the design? Maybe some people might like to have a trailer like yours.

If it was commercially built, they'd probably be a bit protective of it I suspect - intellectual property and all that. Maybe better for someone to measure it and draw up some plans or take some more photos as well.

I've been toying with building a trailer for some time. After some study, I'm leaning towards a tilt trailer to save on having to carry ramps around.
Still there were some design elements of k man's trailer that looked real nice.

Sorry Gavin - I thought you meant get the plans for other people (ie us) to make his design, rather than the original manufacturer making more for other mini owners. In that case I'm sure he would still have the plans, most of them just work off photos and basic measurements anyhow and customise it according to the customers wishlist.

Contact Austrailers at Campbeltown, he has the measurements, plan and a photo or go to www.austrailers.com.au

Be prepared to spend over $2500.

Remember if they build it they usually include second hand wheels/tyres so you must be specific.

Cheers

I got a couple of prices and had already used a few companies for other box and boat trailers however I found these guys to be the best to deal with.

I was happy to pay the cost of having it custom built to exactly how I wanted it which included the disc brakes and brand new alloy wheels, including the spare, thats where the price added up.
