whatever happened to just a speedo and fuel gauge from the 850's
(which probably never worked properly anyway)
no water temp, oil pressure, volts to worry about

on the contrary, i LOVE a dash with 20 gauges on it... feels like you're flying an aeroplane

Yep they're digital. They look like dakota digital guages.
Just like this panel I made earlier (NOT!)

Wasn't there someone on here with a story about electrical problems causing their brakes to fail? Good story.

I'd omit oil temp and volts... not necessary.

Don't overdo it... K.I.S.S.

WRONG willy, volts are very nesessary, they show up the 1st sign of any electrical dramas, oil temp is'nt rally needed

Doogie

I have Speedo, Tacho, Fuel, Water temp, Oil pressure and Volts (good for telling when the alternator kicks in :D )

i used to have heaps of gauges, but got sick of them taking up dash space, canned them all and stuck with a rev counter, but i dont even look at that.
gauges are good to have but i agree with other people here on where to stop, no need for too many.
just stick to a oil pressure and water temp.
im soon to fit an oval dash to my mini, which has a combined water/oil on the left, speedo in center and small 52mm tacho on the right.
k.i.s.s

Since i've got a passenger seat in mine and do a bit of touring / rallying, i've set it up for a driver / navigator design.

Essentials (read - important ones): tacho, water temp, oil pressure (drivers side).

Less-Essentials (usually don't cause the engine to blow up): fuel, voltmeter (passenger side).

I'm deciding whether to add an oil temp guage to the less-essential (passenger side). It'd be good to know, and you could test different grades of oil and see how it interacts with the engine. How else do you know what temp your oil is running at? From memory 200 - 230 degrees Fareignheit is optimal.

re: volts - you can survive without one, but if it's a race car, you've got a batt. isol somewhere near the dash anyway (ie. easy to hook up). It would only be useful to see if your alternator isn't generating enough voltage, or for troubleshooting.

Speedo - who cares :) I hate connecting / mounting the speedo gauge/ short cable - it's big, heavy and gets in the way of everything. Just put a conversion chart up... (rpm -> kmph) and save some weight :)
