Has it run beefore :?:

-12months ago before the engine came out.

If so, remove number one plug, put HT lead back on...hold it up against the block (earth - you do have an earth lead from the bottom of the clutch cover to the subframe :?: don't you :?: )

-Yes earth is well and no spark.

Get an assitant to crank her over or short out the solenoid bolts yourself (just quickly)....see if you get a spark across the spark gap. If you get one...you could try the other three to give you some confidence.

But :!: more importantly, have you had the distributor out :?: loosened off :?:
- No dissi hasnt been out or loosened off

Its been sitting for twelve months. I will replace the coil tomorrow and go start again.

The latest:

A went end put in a new coil.

When the engine is turning over off the starter:

8v - . 8v +

When the engine is not turning over
12v both sides

So I assume I have an earthing problem somewhere

Still no spark to the head from the coil from the HT lead.

Points...are they new :?: ...if so give them a thorough check over (especially the faces, bright shiney :?: and the insulation as Jon said above). They are adjusted correctly :?:

Thats would be wrong. They had melted that might make it a little difficult to start- new points coming right up.

Just make sure you don't overtighten the insulator so that it cuts through...and make sure the faces of the NEW points are free of oil/protective coating etc..maybe carefully clean with turps/metho first.

Don't forget a tiny bit of silicone grease behind the pawl

I'm off to a driving and guitar lesson....both for my son  Good luck :!:
