Hi guys, l'm not a real know it all with Mini's but I was wondering if anybody would be so kind enough to share with me the secrets of how to determine if a Clubman GT is actually a Clubman GT or not?!?!?! This car has the twin carbs, twin fillers & tanks, disc front brakes, but I do not know how to tell by year model or chassis number etc, etc if she is the real deal!!!! Can anybody please shed some light on the subject for me???? Cheers guys.

Hi,
Some of the easier things to look for are;
Compliance plate under the bonnet front drivers side reading YG2S8----.
That same digits YG2S8----, stamped on the radiator cowling.
Behind the master cylinder on the firewall should be stamped M23, and then the numbers approx. 500 less than the four YG2S8 ---- following digits.
The vehicle should have 7.5 front discs with VH44 brake booster and hydrolastic suspension.
Washer bottle next to the radiator(near the grille).
Oil Cooler secured to the bottom of the front apron.
Engine should be 1275cc with prefix of 9F/XE/Y-----,1200/---- or1206/---- and 4 speed synchro remote box.
The dash has 6500rpm tacho redline and speedo is 120mph with kph inside.
The heater has two spotwelded retaining brackets.
Underneath the rear passenger seat is a 1/4 inch hole for the fuel pump breather.
Should have twin tanks with electric fuel pump.
The right hand fuel tank securing bracket should be welded to the boot wall.
In the boot should be 5 brackets to support the boot board(between twin tanks),2 left and 2 right breather line tags, 3 breather line tags on the under parcel shelf. As well as holes in the boot floor for the breather lines to vent.
These are just some of the easier things to find and should give you a good idea, if the car is genuine or not.
However buyer beware, if in doubt get someone to help verify the authenticity.
Good Luck

Hi there again guys,
I used the info you all gave me to good advantage as I now have myself a genuine 5/72 Clubman GT.... but she aint real pretty so I guess that means time to break out the spanners & get stuck into a rebuild. She is missing a few things so i'll also have to chase some stuff up here & there for her. Pics will be coming along soon also so stay tuned people. :D

Well congratulations mate.
Doesn't matter how pretty it is or isn't - you got yourself one and that's all that matters.
Good luck with it 8)
Peter.
