I might try my 10x7's over a set of 8.4's if I get a chance this weekend. Theyve got SO much offset that the backing plate AND the drums are exposed by at least 15-20mm when the wheels are fitted  8) So I might be lucky....

Click on pictures to enlarge them

Here is a picture of the exposed drum and backing plate when the 10x7's are fitted. Compare it to yours

I got the measurements of the ones on eBay from the seller.

They aren't going to fit over 8.4's without mega spacers. :(

Some suspension theory....
Most vehicles (including a Mini) have their suspension's balljoint (or kingpin) inclination angle set up to minimise tyre scrub when turning.
The distance from the centre of the tyre contact patch to a line extended thru the balljoints is called the scrub radius.
For good steering and minimal kickback on bumps, potholes etc this distance should be minimised.
In fact, Volkswagen used to advertise negative scrub radius, for stability if you accidentally got a wheel in the gravel.

Apart from putting horrendous loads on your wheel bearings, dramatic wheel offset this wide (the Jap 10" ones) throws the whole concept of scrub radius out the window.
On anything other than a dead smooth road, it will steer like a dog.
IMO...

Stability?

Its a bit hard to lose control when youre busy looking at your own reflection when driving slowly past shop-front windows

I run 12"X6" Imp rims on metro vented brakes....So outside track is something like 40mm over normal. I wouldn't say it handles like a dog.....you just need both hands on the wheel 8)
