Well i think its time to say bye-byes to my heater. I havent used it AT ALL in the winter months, and its just taking up space. Ok i think i can physically take it out, but what about the pipes that go into it?
I know that they come from the engine so i was wondering where i would put the pipes.

If your car was built to ADRs then you must have a demister/heater.
So if you pull it out it is just another defect waiting to happen!

Holy SHITE! Are you serious. Well im gonna do it anyway... they'd believe me if i said "No officer, this is an 'S'... they didnt come out with heaters"
and as for demister... just open the windows a little.

Then there is the other problem of driving around on a rainy day with fogged up windows!

Another thing that most people miss is that the heater is part of the cooling system. So if you pull the heater out the car loses part of its cooling capacity.

So you pull out the heater and the inside of the car is cooler but the motor will run hotter!
Just what you need on a stinking hot day! I would rather be driving along hot rather than sitting on the side of the road waiting for the motor to cool down!

If i put in a thermo fan... a la Dr Trim; would this keep it cool enough - enough that would balance the heat that would come from taking the heater out.

The whole thing of the minis always overheating is a bit of a myth. As long as you have a clean decent radiator, a cold thermostat, your mixture is set right and your fan is the right way around there's no need for a thermal fan especialy in Adelaide where you're a stone throw from antarctica - am I wrong?

Hmmm.. with a big motor the stock 3 core rad can be marginal on hot days. Yes I had a real Cooper S- watching the needle creep up to H in traffic was not funny!
Yeah I know the handbook sez turn the heater on..

I run a MiniMatic fresh air heater under the hood of the 1310, but a bare heater core there takes up less room and still adds to the cooling capacity. Ask kazjim what a fifference it made when to his turbo!

A Mate of mine has a thermo fan on his 1310 and a normal fan but no surround and he says it get very hot at the lights and when in traffic. He has a large 4 cors rad and i told him to put the rad surrond back on to allow the fan to work properly.

A Bloody Mini

1970 Mini K, 1380cc, 1.75 HIF SU, 30 70 Cam, 2" Zorts
1969 Mini K, Stock Standard and Orginal. (Slow as Hell)

Its only an 1100 and it has never got to hot... stays around Normal even on days like this... 36 degrees.

oh, and the radiator is the standard one.

hmm will it really affect it that much?

Try it. If it gets hot stick a heater core behind the grille where the air can blow thru it. Helps a lot on hot days- more water in circulation, and more cooling area.

So just remove the heater and the hoses coming from the heater, go straight into a heater core.
Where should i get the core from and about how much moola?

Its inside your heater willy - open the heater and remove all other parts but use the core behind your grille.

Ahh... im with ya now.

Might start it on monday when theres less heat
