Ahhh, well this explains a lot. My father always insists that i am supposed to adjust the tappets when they're running, but my book says not to.

He used to have an FJ holden..

Well, when I got home from work the other day, I adjusted them - hot - to 10 thou. I will check again today while they're cold just to see what they really are set at. Should be interesting. I tried to adjust them with the motor running - loosened all the lockers first but couldn't get the screwdriver in the slots as they were going too fast lol.

According to old BMC info, somewhere, .012" COLD = .011" HOT.

That's for stock cams, MOST sporty cams are wider gap. Usually .015-.016" with std rockers.
