OK, I'll bite :D The only remote change I had was awful, and I never managed to get it to either stop buzzing, or feel particularly accurate. I've had a couple of rod changers since and they've been far, far nicer..

Then again, I reckon Morris should have stuck with the gearchange on the 850. No linkages, just straight into the 'box ;)

From the engine number that you posted in another thread it has a later motor so it may have a remote or it may have a rod-change.
With a rod-change you are supposed to lift the stick for reverse.
With a remote you have to give the stick a knock to go past the detent into reverse. (it will give a little knock or click when you move the stick past the 3/4 position)

A rod change will also have an oil leak under the engine.

Currently we're running 2 remotes, on a mild 1293 and a hot 1360. Not sloppy, and no buzzes in either.
I find the secret is to eliminate wear in the linkage. A major cause is worn shift bushes in the diff housing, they are sloppy on the shaft when new. Like Keith Calver, I make my own bushes.
Another wear point is the shift balls on the bellcrank in the diff housing- I built them up with nickel rod and polished them back to size.
Back at the gearlever, the nylon bush on top wears out, so can the one at bottom of lever.

I gotta secret. It was provided out of thin air and it works a treat. A few other people have used it as well. But it is ONLY for the remote change boxes.

It should be a how-to because of the pleasure it brings. The mini is so quiet, I an here the hand brake actuators in the rear brakes rattling on the backplates!

Here's the part.

and here's the link that explained it.

I almost read that as "Like Calvin Klein, I make my own undies"

Every word in that sentence is familiar, but I have no idea what you just said. ;) It was a long time ago, but I just wrapped mine in tape. I think your method is probably better..

Yeah, they are a morris minor part, so Morris minor spare places should have them. Apparently, asking for a suspension trunnion bush is easily understood by the Moggie drivers. It's a bit like asking for a rubber uni from a mini specialist, everyone knows what you're talking about..
