A year ago when we visited this subject wasn't there someone on the Gold Coast putting single rotor off a 13B into Minis?

Rotormax, or someone... :?

Well i have found out that the guy that does the rotory into mini conversions is still around. His name is doug and hes number is 0438 759 674.

He uses a 13b single rotor mated to a mitsubishi cordia gearbox. I have been given this info from a friend of his off the ausrotory forums. He states the reason why single rotors are used is cause you get ample reliability and power and revs... who needs torque when you have 15.000 revs to play with..

and also, cause the standard endplates are used, then you have a water pump and oil pump that are meant for two rotors, so ample cooling and lubrication aswell, reliability comes form the fact that a shorter "crankshaft" is used, so less flex and more revs!!

So if anyone is seriously looking at doing a rotor conversion then give give him a call and he will be more than happy to answer all questions about all aspects...
and get as much info as possible.

edit:
more of that nz mini

Guys I have a magazine feature on this car. It is powered by a 12a turbo rotary mated to a toyota corona ST190 (late fwd-model I suppose) 5 speed box. It runs macpherson struts all round and as you have said has been stretched a bit, apparently it is about 100mm wider and 100mm longer.

The chassis is a complete spaceframe deal, with fibreglass panels. According to the article, on 18psi boost it put out 310 hp at the front wheels, but it usually runs at the track with 25psi. 15inch TSW wheels, dunlop slicks. S4 RX7 front brakes, Suzuki GSX 1100 rears. Thats about it really.

The article is in the current issue of 'Performance Buldups' if anyone is interested. There is a red holden ute doing a burnout on the cover but there is actually some good content in this mag. It has gone down hill of late though. They featured the whole build of the 'redback spyder' which was at the motor show. Awesome car, if a bit on the ugly side.

Anyway, hope this helps.

madmorrie.

I remember seeing a photo of a 323 with a rotary in it using either the 323 gearbox, same as whats in a laser. I've added some pics of them. One of the pics is just one i have photoshopped into a mini to get a rough idea of size.

David

There has been very little to report of late I'm afraid. But cause you asked I went out and took a pic of the jig, and then photoshopped it so you can see whats happening, and did a quick update. Will have to dig around and find my old thread to post this properly.

Cheers, and thanks for the interest.
