Well I have been talking to alot of people...

& mick I did have a look under that green mini thanks hehehe I was surprised to see a 8-port there...

I agree that you can make the same power with a 5-port. But the bigest difference is a 5port motor with 170hp wont move under 4500rev's

But a 8-port with 170hp will still pull from 2500 rev's & up.... (thats much more street freindly...

well to build a full house a series engine ( 8port or twincam not including gearbox) i could build a whole mini with 4efte toyota engine conversion ready for rego.

Im looking at around 180hp (at the wheels) and that is on a fully stock engine and taking it easy on it (there is one 4efte in sydney with over 340hp at the wheels)

Some say its now not a mini, well technically no it isnt, but you wouldnt know unless i lifted the bonnet :D

In the end it is a 200hp motor for under 2 grand, and it comes with a 5 speed attached.

But it just isnt quite a mini anymore :(

not quite, but not not either.... I've got a lot of respect for people who build a hybrid, it's a lot more work than simply dropping a 1275 into an 850. - I'm very impressed with your car... and like you say, no-one knows till you lift the bonnet, and the correct response should be awe. On the other hand, I don't like it when people put V8's into Jaguars, and build hotrods out of early fords and chevs...

My honda is gonna be a sleeper, I want to keep it as normal looking on the outside as I can - even contemplated 3.5" steel rims - fingers crossed I can get enough stopping power with the Cooper S brakes I've got for it so I can stick to 10's without machining rotors. I've got my original (never even been painted) and unchanged Cooper S to get my fix of standard mini fun, and it is great to toodle around in - I even love the original bus steering wheel. My van is brutal, noisy, rattley, too fast for it's own good

you got it there Baracade. The biggest advantage to a 8 port or 7 port head is the ability to easily (compared to siamesed inlet 5 port deign) put fuel injection on. then you get great flexibilty.

the Dr is right when he says that 8 port is no advantage on a race car because everything is tuned for maximum throttle opening, usually with close ratios to keep it in the power band etc so there is no advantage to have the fuel injection over a properly tuned weber

I read not long ago in mini world Jack Knight are coming out with a new revised head.

The kad head are stupidly priced, i think at the melbourne mini show mini sport AU wanted 12,000 for the head? and i dont think that included the intake bits for the webers. If your gonna spend that kind of money just go brads route... so much cheaper.

skssgn is right, they should be in awe of that starlet powered clubby, its a very fine piece of work :)

Looks bloody nice, is pretty much setup like mine, except he has no twin tanks :D

Its only making 150hp at the wheels though, and is on nos  thought it would make more from a 1500cc

I think spending $3k for a elder head will be enough for me if I'm getting 160 to 180hp out of one of them I'll be more then happy for the street.

Then I can start on my big project. A flip front 300hp GT Starlet Mini with LSD....

:D :D :D :D :D

3k for the elder sounds cool, what else is needed for it to work?

It will cost more than that to start with- then you need carbs, exhaust, porting work, etc. I think the cam lobe arrangement is same as stock, unlike the Arden- so no funny cams needed.

so it could work out around 5 grand to get it going?? what about the bottem end, what would need to be done for it to hold 170hp?

Next thing is the gearbox, will it hold 170hp all day everyday?

I've had this debate with myself far too many times. For me it always came back to gearbox and it's perceived vulnerability (my perception only).
