well to build a full house a series engine ( 8port or twincam not including gearbox) i could build a whole mini with 4efte toyota engine conversion ready for rego.
Im looking at around 180hp (at the wheels) and that is on a fully stock engine and taking it easy on it (there is one 4efte in sydney with over 340hp at the wheels)
Some say its now not a mini, well technically no it isnt, but you wouldnt know unless i lifted the bonnet
In the end it is a 200hp motor for under 2 grand, and it comes with a 5 speed attached.
But it just isnt quite a mini anymore

not quite, but not not either.... I've got a lot of respect for people who build a hybrid, it's a lot more work than simply dropping a 1275 into an 850. - I'm very impressed with your car... and like you say, no-one knows till you lift the bonnet, and the correct response should be awe. On the other hand, I don't like it when people put V8's into Jaguars, and build hotrods out of early fords and chevs...
My honda is gonna be a sleeper, I want to keep it as normal looking on the outside as I can - even contemplated 3.5" steel rims - fingers crossed I can get enough stopping power with the Cooper S brakes I've got for it so I can stick to 10's without machining rotors. I've got my original (never even been painted) and unchanged Cooper S to get my fix of standard mini fun, and it is great to toodle around in - I even love the original bus steering wheel. My van is brutal, noisy, rattley, too fast for it's own good
