I rang up the owner of this green Rover (
http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/MINI/COOPER/New%20South%20Wales/csn1130886.aspx), which he brought over from Japan and just arrived about a week ago.
The car looks good from the pictures.
He said he's got all the necessary paperworks, has been complied etc but it's unregistered. His reasoning is that he doesn't want to waste rego if he can't find a buyer. So as soon as he got one, he will give full rego.
He also it'll be an easy process and he offered to get it registered first under his name and I do the transfer later on.
I'm not so familiar with personal import and compliance stuff. All I know is that only pre-89 cars can be imported, '89+ cars can be imported personally but it's hard to get it complied and registered, etc.
Can anyone shed a light regarding this? How can you check if it's already been complied? I mean, the car has only arrived a week ago and it's already complied. I would've thought it takes longer...
Let say it's legit, when I bring it over to Melb, is the transfer going to be easy? Or do I have to go through the compliance process again?
Thanks,
Daniel
