Is there any easy way to change the fan belt on a mini?

No...you can try and feed it around the fan blades one by one until you get the whole belt around back....but it ain't easy!!

My order of business;

- loosen the alternator and move forward
- remove fan
- remove water pump pulley
- put on belt
- put two bolts in water pump pulley to keep it lined up
- reposition and tighten alternator
- remove bolts form waterpump pulley
- install fan and pulley

U forgot to mention removal of the old belt...Otherwise, follow that procedure and u will be right... Its not a simple as a belt on a Dinosaur Buick V6..

Um- why do you need to remove the water pump pulley...?? never seen the need on an Oz Mini or Moke..

I put the belt on the pulley and reattach the pulley rather than stretching the belt. It means I dont need to loosen the alternator much and that I can do the job one handed (a requirement of mine :wink: )

Ummmm But you want to stretch the belt ever so slightly....new ones stretch a little anyway and may need re-tightening....its something I have always checked :idea:

my problem is that my busted hands cant physically stretch the belt over- so that is my alternative - I take the slack out with the alternator.

You mean its not an easy task ????

haha

twenty minutes to have the hanging from the end of a hydraulic hoist above the car - undo the top radiator bracket and pull the radiator forward after removing the top radiator house. Loosen alternator - slip the new belt over the fan blades then over the alternator pulley. Adjust tension, refit top radiator hose and radiator bracket. Refit engine - easy peasy

Now having said the above removal of engine was the way to go - its not !!!!!

But the fan belt is a terrible job as each above has testified.

yeah fit it around the fan blades one by one, use the indent in the radiator shroud put there for this purpose
