Periodically grey wouldnt start, then would start. Now just no start. Engine wont crank over, sounding like not enough power. Battery, starter, coil is all ok, Any other suggestions so i can stop clutch startin. Cheers.

Nah, the Lucas starters sometimes get a bit sticky. If someone oils the starter it will build up crud on the bendix and gum up the works. then the starter will just jam and not start and not throw out. You rock the car in gear to get it to disengage.

If the solenoid is crook you turn the key and nothing happens. Not a sound.

Is it the original battery :?:

Bendix gears also get hooks on them from smashing into the ring gear...they can get hooked up and not let go....put it in gear and rock it back and forth.

Any joy yet?

Sounds like poor cable connections to me - all those currants aren't a gettin to the starter!Check your connections to see if they're loose, dirty etc. Also the obvious ones - battery posts. Check battery volts - should be about 13.5 fully charged.

Wouldn't mind betting the battery is down on amps.

Last time I checked my battery terminals,I thought to myself - wish my wife was this dirty :P

Can you clutch start it? If you can then its starter or supply to starter.

had similar prob for a while. Thought all was good even starter!
Turned out to be the starter as it had obviously been worn. It would take as much charge as it could but not turn the engine properly. Swapped it out and now good as new! :D
