I'M only going on what the tacho read, The guy that built the motor says its a quater race cam, ported +polished head, and he used to race mini's at wanaroo.. I'll have to try another tacho and see what it does must be r.s., I spose if some of you bloke s could see what it does you'd be asking questions to.. T o the bloke who hasn't seen to many mini motors rev past 8000 rpm why do they make tacho's go to 10,000rpm? must be piontless they'd be redlining about 8000
Ok...FULL race motor's don't rev much beyond 8,000rpm certainly not past 9,000rpm reliably
They have a 3 bearing crank with 1950's technology.
Regardless there simply isn't much more power beyond that with a 5port head. And even if it did make more power - it's only as good as what the bottom end can take.
10,000rpm? wtf did that come from? they make tacho's to 15,000rpm too - does that mean we should all be driving around in our 40yo car's at balistic revs?
And where does the 10,000rpm tacho/8,000rpm redline come from? redline is a factory guided number - there is no redline once you modify the motor to go past what it was originally designed - you simply pick a number in the upper rpm range that you/you're engine builder are happy with - within reason for the specifications of the engine itself.
