Are you sure they are not chatter marks from the CV running at full lock and shaft hitting outer CV body, maybe because used with a UK Mk2 rack? I've seen some funny marks on there before.
its so hard to tell if it has been welded, but it definitely looks like marks from an agle grinder.
how much damage gets done when one does break?
how much of a PITA is it to fix?
i'm still going with initial instinct and i will now return to the garage to fit the hub sans shaft in the meantime.
