Well without its correct ID Plate and numbers etc , its just as sports850 says , just another round nose mini , with a Cooper S motor , unfortunately . It may have left the factory as a genuine Cooper S , but now its just a look alike really , no matter how many letters of authenticity or original owners to state its genuine
I don't think that way of reasoning is quite right. With re-birthing of cars in the 60s 70s and 80s whos to say that most people with "matching" numbers etc are in fact original cooper s.
there would be people out there who could have obtained an unstamped plate and or engine block and punched their own numbers into it - we all know it can be done. SO how can a car be a look alike when it never was rebirthed and has never changed from factory - ever. I suppose the real challenge lies to prove that it isn't a cooper s .
I thought a car that has a 40 year chain of title with all those little idiosincracies the coop has such as that tiny little plastic breather vent behind the passenger seat (which incidently I did not know about until I asked the question ) but as I was told it a sure sign of a coop s, would mean more than a metal plate that can be stamped by anyone anywhere for little outlay.
Does anyone know if there is a department we can call to get a record of that police number?
thanks for all your advice people
In all probability it is a genuine S . All im saying is that without its correct ID , its just not worth the price of one that has its correct ID , and I think the purchase price of $7000 reflects that quite well . A few minutes with a drill can put a hole under the rear left hand passenger seat for the fuel breather . Would you pay big big money for a "genuine" Falcon GTHO or XU1 Torana , as they are getting now at auction , without its Correct ID plate and identifying numbers , I know that myself , I wouldn't , even if the original owner says its the genuine article . Genuine Cooper S and Clubman GT will be worth big money in years to come , any mini will , as they get harder to find . Ask Shannons to give you a valuation based on the info you have . The real challenge lies in proving that it is GENUINE , im sorry to say , but if you are happy that it is the genuine article , then thats up to you ......
