I don't like seeing wrecked rovers. :(
If unrepairable remember......you still have a van and a heap of parts.

Sorry to see that. Reminds me of my first mini though! Looked almost exactly like that after the last time I drove it.

Glad to hear no serious injuries... cars are replaceable..even minis :(

Cheers, bryan

i've seen your rover before in the city, around exhibition street. it was a really nice rover, sorry to see it go. you should be able to strip it and use heaps of good parts, sell the rest.

Ouch, that is some prang. Luckily you're fine.

What speed were you going at? I'm surprised how well the Mini held up actually (and that the steering wheel actually crumpled backwards, the way it was designed)

Sorry to hear about your loss. Glad to hear that you are ok though. Are you planning to stick with mini's and buy another one or are you going to see if this one can get repaired first?

Finally set up a hosting page, so here are a few clearer pics:

Image
Ouch! - doesn't look too bad from this angle because I hit square on

Image
"Don't call me hooknose" [Life of Brian] - btw the pinstripe use to be straight

Image
Front left - torn scuttle seam, popped seam cover, etc

Image
front right is now shaped more like the rear (sorry for sideways - next time I'll know to rotate before uploading  )

Image
Oh my aching lights (sorry again for the angle)

So here's what happened... peak hour, King Street, Melbourne CBD, Clearway Zone, heading west about 5 minutes after sunset

The two right lanes were coming to a stop, I'm in the left (curbside Clearway lane) with about another half a block open in front of me, about a half car length behind the car in the lane to the right of me, so I start to brake lightly to wipe off a bit of speed as I continue up the left lane beside the other two stopped lanes.

As my front bumper is about level with the car to my right's rear door, a Magna station wagon that has come the opposite way up King street and turned right comes out from the front of the car beside me on my right

I was still probaly doing around 50kph and I can remember thinking as I increased the pressure on the brake that "this is going to be big ... I don't want to do this" as I hit him square in the front wheel - the rest, as they say, is now history

Sad news John! Glad you are basically okay, but sorry for the poor Mini.

It seems to happen far too often lately - Minis getting hit I mean! :(

The front of the car is touching the engine, and the engine and subframe have pushed the firewall back, plus the floor where the subframe mounts has push up a couple inches. Everything is repairable if you throw enough money at it, but I don't think she'll be back on the road again. Just have to wait and see what the insurance company says.
