JENNINGS MACHINERY GLASS Final round was run in perfect weather with two contenders fighting for outright honours. There should have been three competitors fighting it out but John Walker broke his wrist playing Superman so he had to sit on the sidelines & watch his Father enjoy himself.
I Would like to take this opportunity to Thank Peter & Shannon from Jennings Machinery Glass for there much appreciated support for the last two years
Qualifying saw Charlie Borg in a familiar pole position with series contender Bob Bell siting next to him on the front row. Warwick Agustin with a fresh engine was third & a grinning Wayne Gardner fourth.
The third row was taken up by Dennis Walker & Henry Draper the other series contender. Allan Ross & the flash new painted car of Robert Sharp’s where on the fourth row. Wade Thomas Brad Dubos Phillip Reynolds Dave Curry Stephen Sharp & John Mallam completed the field. John Mallam broke a drive shaft that saw john sitting on the sidelines for the rest of the day.
Race one was a five lap screamer & saw Warwick Agustin out due to a oil leak & slipping clutch plus Dave Curry who hasn’t raced in fourteen years with a blown head gasket. Borg took his customary first position from Bell with Gardner third followed by the wiley old fox Ross, Draper, Walker and Robert Sharp swapping places & keeping each other honest. The last lap saw a lead change when Bell dived under Borg on the last corner & Gardner also took the challenge to pass Borg & drag race Bell to the Chequered flag. Bell won by 3 hundredths of a second from Gardner with Borg third Ross fourth Draper fifth Sharp seventh followed by Thomas, Reynolds, Dubos & Stephen Sharp who had a blown head gasket but finished in the points.
Race two saw Borg take the lead at the start from Bell & hold it till the end with Bell second & Ross holding down third till lap four when Agustin passed him for third Gardner came fifth after a first lap off followed by Walker Robert Sharp Thomas Stephen Sharp Draper who broke a gearbox & lost all chance of winning the series. Eleventh was Reynolds & Dubos & all the starters of the race finished.
Race three was the eight lap trophy race saw the usual Borg Bell one two with Ross third on the first lap but soon lost the position to a hard charging Gardner who held the position till lap five. Gardner had a suspension failure when he looked like passing Bell for second that sidelined him for the rest of the day. Ross resumed third till the flag while Robert Sharp finished fourth in front of his brother & gained three places in the race. Reynolds in his “J” car finished sixth and had a great race while learning the track as this was his first visit to the circuit. Thomas limped to the finish to gain valuable point to see him finish a much deserved second in class & fourth outright for the year. Walker only managed to do six laps before he retired Curry broke a drive shaft of the line to destroy any change of a race finish.
Race four was a eight lap combined Mini’s & sedans. Borg & Bell ran away to an easily first & second with Greg Boyle third with low boost. Fourth was Ross from street in his Evo then ****** Sharp & Sharman Berry who where having a great dice in there Escorts. Tenth & eleventh where Dave Curry & Dave Curry yes we have to drivers with the same name. Dave Curry Mini finally finished a race & was grinning for the rest of the day.
