99H971 is a '74 onwards 998 with dished pistons, but would be an import because it's not an aussie prefix

ALL the 998 Clubby motors used after the Mini Deluxe ended were imported from UK. This includes the 998 Clubbies from `74? on, also all the Minimatics- most of which had prefix 99H/119/H.

My '75 Leyland Mini S, according to the plate, had an 1100 motor, and I think the change to 998 (which is written in that Mini Minor Downunder book, but I can't be bothered to get it out and read it up) was late '75.

Which would mean that this engine is a Leyland 998. From a Clubman style mini.

its on the block as opposed to the head, its horizontal so you see it from above as opposed to from the side.
