Somebody once told me that a black engine would radiate heat more efficiently and keep cooler. Is this complete crap or is there something to it?

Maybe the reverse is true and the black will run hotter.

My original BMC 850 '63 motor is blue - no sign of any green anywhere :?

My 74 clubby van is a blue 1098cc, I have a 1990 1275 Jap motor in red. I strongly belive these colours to be orgional.

I've wondered this as well, (were the engines colour coded for 'cc' or models) I thought they may be like the holden motors black, blue, red etc :?

I think that 850's were dark 'castrol' green, deluxe ,cooper s, 1100 ,GT , and early clubman with remote shift were the lighter green. clubman 1100 with rod change were blue as Chris said, 998 clubman were black 1275 LS were also black. the gold colour does ring a bell but I don't remember seeing too many of them. 850's were dark green because they come from England and had their engine number riveted to the engine in the normal place and removed in Australia the plate was then tied to the engine with a peice of string!

Mini-K was gold, so was the Oz Morris 1100.
Same motor, but M1100 was only 3 synchro box not 4.

From the Mini kingdom catalogue...
Cooper S = Metallic Green
Mini 850, Cooper = Dark Green
Mini Deluxe and Mini-K = Metallic Beige

From the top of my head....
As above plus
Morris 1100 = Metallic Beige
Mini Clubman = Blue
Clubman GT looks like Metallic Beige (in the only colour photo that I have)
Leyland Mini (Late) = Black

Later UK engines are red.

Gt motor has no mechanical fuel pump (memory)

Is definitely a 1275 motor (had 12g940 head), there are no pockets to accompany smaller head. and is 1200 prefix block.

Is it possible that it was sprayed wrong colour at factory,

"last block on a friday and couldnt be botherd to change paint" or similar ?????????????????????????

i havnt found any green and it is definitely bue - dark blue sorta navy type colour

wouldnt be the first bodgy thing leyland did

ill have to measure the bore to see if it has been out before, and if it is larger i can say its been done by somebody after.

The Cooper S motors were fully imported and came painted the English Green. They were then re-sprayed to the local Metallic Green. You can see on the motor where it was repainted.
I don't know what they did with the Clubman GT but they were also a fully imported motor and could have had similar treatment.
I have a colour photo of a brand new Clubman GT (1971) when it was being road tested by Modern Motor magazine and it looks like Metallic Beige.

BUT!!!! Leyland changed things a fair bit in the days leading up to the P76 and they changed the engine colours to blue on most cars that they built during that period (72 to 74)

Does your blue look like the bits of blue on this motor?
