well after driving my little buz box to work 4 days in a row, on the 5th day it decided that 5 days was one day too many and it up and stopped.

so a call to James at minis of sydney and he takes it away to conduct an autopsy.

a carefull examination
apparently I had exhausted my fuel supply by way of a leaky fuel tank.
a fuel gauge that indicated a 50% fuel load didnt help.

the autopsy revelead a few other problems, time for an overhaul and other repairs

rebuild/replace gearbox
new clutch kit.
machined flywheel and drive plate.
cylinder head work.
camshaft upgrade
all bearings,rings.
oil pump.
steering rack repair.
headlight dipper switch move.
tyres.
extractors and exhaust
wiper upgrade .
plus a bit of metal cancer, full respray may be coming

oh yeah
fuel tank and gauge

James is going to be busy

Do you know this James Well. I can't see how he can say there are problems with half these things without pulling apart

ok a bit more explaining

some of this is elective surgery.
I was considering a front cut upgrade/conversion (and someone to do it for me) we discussed a few things to do while he has my car I asked him to put together an alternate cost effective solution for a bit of extra grunt without going over the top as well as interior cosmetic things.

so some work is required, some work asked for and was on the cards before my fuel tank/guage problem, this just hastened it

Erm....top it up with fuel and keep going...

unless you want to do a full resto on it

Sounds like a lot of wasted money there...not saying it wont all do good, but if it got you to work 4 days in a row and the only thing that stopped you was fuel..then fill it up and keep driving until you need to do work on it.

If you got the money go for it, but dont think you have to do even half the things on that list.

I'd have to say then...if the Box has problems then do it.
but other wise unless its a 1275 and you have disc's I'd search for those and do it to that instead

its looking that way.
I had intentions of doing some of this, well getting somebody to do it that is, over a period of time anyway.

but i may as well get as much done as a I can now.

the re spray was a wish list for later but I am sure as soon as we start to clean up the rust we can see then there will be more we didnt see

sounds like fun

get him to replace the pistons and give it a fresh rebore - just replacing the rings never works out for the best, and it's not much extra in terms of parts - while it's all apart, get it done properly

Mate I would stick with your original idea of getting a Rover front cut. Sure the gear inside it aint new but you get lots of other funky stuff like new dash, a/c and efi. Speak to Steve at Brixworx, he is a nice enough and a helpful bloke.

That sounds like a full resto. Unless you do the work yourself it is likely to be costly. Unless the car has sentimental value to you it might be cheaper and easier to get another Mini that someone else has already spent the money on.

after consulting with Steve at Brickworx I have decided to go with the frontcut.
hope to have it on the road again before xmas
