All the best SGC, keep us posted on your progress. :)

I wouldn't take it as a given that you'll have problems, my car has done Adelaide to Sydney and Sydney - Bathurst - Sydney in the last couple of years and hasn't missed a beat.

The trouble with doing that on the Pacific Goat Track is you get trucks ramming up your ass and trying to pass you. Not exactly safe.

I'm actually still in Melbourne  Dad's driving to Newcastle, I'm meeting him there tonight.

Depends on how much time we have up our sleeves. Places to be, people to meet, things to do  I may have to make a visit to Canberra via Thredbo sometime, though 8)

With my 1152 and 40mm Dellorto, RE13 etc i was getting 9.8L/100km @ around 110km/h freeway driving :)

You'll make it no worries - as everyone else has said plenty of long trips done in minis every year. ;)

My last tank took me 288kms from 24ltrs, which gives me 8.3L/100km. That's about equal-parts highway (110/120km/h) and town driving, and quite spirited at that.

No complaints here :)

I know that feeling. The mini seems to attract these tossers that think it's funny.
I took NAV from Coffs Harbour to Canberra, I was getting about 350ish kays from my tank, which gives about 7.1l/100km.
Enjoy the run, find the twisty stuff and forget the economy runs.

err  he's sleeping. Shh you might wake him up.
NAV got retired a year ago from daily duties when I was still in Chermside, when I bought my landcruiser.
I'm working on him returning to active duties, soonish I hope.

Well, we made it to Wyong... and what an adventure that was.

We had drama on two fronts, both caused by the weather. Firstly my flight into Newcastle was delayed landing, because an extreme storm had hit the airport. After half an hour of circling, the pilot made a remarkably smooth landing in a break in the storm, and then commented "Welcome to Newcastle, I'm sure glad we're on the ground". I don't know about anyone else, but when the pilot is glad to be on the ground, I definitely am.

Guess that's why they get paid the big bux :)

It took another 45 minutes sitting on the tarmac before they let us off, because the weather delayed the other plane occupying the terminal, preventing it from leaving. Let's fly JetStar!!

Anyway, turns out the weather caused the Mini a drama or two as well. Coming through the torrential rain produced a major squeal under the bonnet, followed by a blink or two of the ignition warning light. Had Dad worried, but turns out it was just the water causing the fan belt to slip a bit. It dried out at the airport waiting for me, and it's all good now. So here we are in Wyong.

Now, on to fuel economy, the reason for this thread :D In total, between Broadbeach and the last fill at Coolongolook (near Forster, NSW), the car did 602 km on 36.7 litres. That's 6.1 L/100km :!: :!:

Wow   That's _much_ better than I expected...

Tomorrow we aim for Myrtleford, via the Snowy's if we have time.
