I've never heard of "Focal" it sounds like a cheap asian knock off

EDIT: I just checked out their site  They got some good stuff, weird sizes but good.

And to answer your questions..................

Quote:
How long til the next post?

Soon Ken, as soon as I have some more stuff to show I will post again

Quote:
the looks hot! reckon you could do mine

Hi Goffy - I could do yours, but I would prefer to show you how to do it (teach a man to fish and all that!)

Quote:
Presumably its made from CF to LOOK faster rather than actually go faster?

MM - no performancing enhancing bits whatsoever - purely cosmetic (but then again it may help the rear parcel shelf stay that little bit stiffer)

Quote:

Gordo - thanks for the feedback, each to their own I say!

Stay tuned for the next post.............................

Cheers,
Tricky

I appreciate the time and effort that went into making it, i sure know it would take me about 3 months to get around to doing something like that... Then all the swearing and throwing things around comes the couple of weeks after

Hmmm... just marginally better than Sony Xplods.

For quality car audio, generally give the 'major' brands a miss.

Not a big fan of the pods either, but admire the workmanship.
Love the planning, design &workmanship of this whole project!

And we're not the only ones - a lot of the RedlineGti members check out every update on this thread.

And in the car. Answering Smegger's question as to whether they will be too high, personally I dont think they will. Feel free to disagree of course. Notice how they follow the contour of the rear screen.

heh focal is definitely not on the lower end of car audio - bout the same level as boston and cadence in my opinion. i have a set of focal utopia splits (not cheap) and they have the biggest magnets ive seen on a set of splits - they just cant get enough juice. dont get me wrong im not saying you get good products if you pay more, thats not the case as i run my whole system on response (jaycar brand) amps. what im saying is that different products sound better for different people, so go with what sounds good for you in the budget that you can afford.

Yeah, right on DTrain. But the speakers are Fusion, not Focal!!

If the budget could have stretched, I would have put in JL, MB Quart or Polk speakers in the car.

But the budget was set at $1,500 for the whole shebang - that includes all speakers (2 x 6.5 splits in the front, 4 x 4" midrange in the centre, and 2 x 5.25" coaxials in the rear) plus the two amps (1 x 1000w Class D Monoblock, 1 x 800w 4-channel for the splits and midrange) plus the head-unit itself (just pure sound, no DVD or any of that crappola!)

The driver for which brands of speaker I chose, was "Do they make 4" midrange speakers, and can I buy them?''. There was only a handful of speaker manufacturers that actually make a 4" midrange, Fusion was one of them, they werent overly expensive for what they were, and I could get my greasy mits on them in Australia. MB Quart was the other one I was considering, but could not get them in Oz, and shipping 2 sets (i.e. 4 speakers) from the US was going to cost me $240 just in freight!

I already had the 9" subs (paid $95 each), so they didn't come into the equation.

So Fusion it is:
http://www.fusioncaraudio.com/

At the moment the budget stands at:
Powerplant 6.5" Component Speakers - $200 (Wow S&S)
Powerplant 5.25" Coaxials - $130.00 (Wow S&S)
Powerplant 4" Midrange (2 sets) - $100.00 (Wow S&S, heavily discounted)
Powerplant 1000X Monoblock Amp - $315 (BitAudio)

That leaves $755 for the 4-Channel amp (already costed at $315 as well), and head unit (JVC KW-XG706 perhaps for $399). Leaves a bit of change for wiring etc.

So there you have it. And I honestly believe that setup is the best bang for my bucks (I have been researching and asking questions for over 6 months now). Another good thing about the Fusion Powerplant amps, is that they will fit under my seats, on the aluminium seat rails I have made.

Please feel free to comment.

Cheers,
Tricky

Hi Dion,

While not in any way an ICE specialist or installer, I did run the 'system' past a couple of people who were very knowledgeable in this field.

They seemed to think it would be all OK. The 2 x 9" subs will be wired in series/parallel to give 4 ohms stable, which will help the amp. The Class D monoblock is rated at 1000w so it should have enough grunt to run the two subs by themselves.

Neither of the 'experts' said anything about running a cap, as I will have 2 x Odyssey PC625 Batteries giving 625 amps each (CCA 265a each) in parallel - so plenty of juice!!

I am always open to suggestions though, as one can never know it all I'm afraid.

Cheers,
Tricky

Gee, thanks man, that is very nice of you to say. :D

If I have inspired you in any way, then I have done my job and it's all been worth it.
