tudor = two door (say it with an american accent  )

So who owned the flaming Mini with the Swift GTI motor in it? That was awesome, produced quite a crowd when I saw it parked. I got pics, but haven't got them off the camera yet.

Gaf there are (few) rules for Hot Rodders, then there are (heaps) others for the rest of us..
Wonder wot the definition of a hot rod is, anyhow... any RWD Mini, for example?

Can't work out with the WINK at the end whether you're taking the piss or not Doc.., so I'll assume not, but there are HEAPS of rules for hotrodders. The perserverance these guys show is extraordinary in the hoops they have to jump and the red tape they get tied up in to merely build a vehicle in a FREE country....BUT they have an organized body of volunteers called the ASRF that represents them at official levels to lobby on their behalf. They have just established the National Gudielines which provides a basic guide to what can or cannot be done during construction. For instance, chassis construction pretty much has to be done by a qualified engineer with the right grade welding ticket. There are MANY ways to build suspension, but some are frowned upon from engineering principles point of views. These are the sort of things that the Guidelines spell out.

A hot rod, according to the ASRF, is a chassis'ed pre-49 vehicle, so no mini, regardless of modification (to my knowledge), cannot be classified as a hot rod. Therefore, you are confined by modern vehicle modification requirements.......BUT minis could be modified, like the yellow ute with the V8, and "registered" under the "SR" (street rod) registration scheme. It is a limited scheme though, in that you could only use the vehicle to travel to, from and participate in ASRF-sanctioned events.

There's more to it than that, but I'm an impatient typer..... :)

No malice intended, but it just seems to me that they have a pretty free rein with what they can build engineering wise, compared to later cars.
I'm just jealous..
No disrespect to them- I have a mate up the road who has built two. 8)

I said in post that I did not want to limit any freedom Rodders might currently enjoy......just pointing out the stupidity of allowing cycle guards or no guards (as an example) when we get pinched if the tyre extends beyound the guard by half and inch. Similarly, we get grieve if we put larger engines (and there is formula of something like 50% increase) where Rodders are allowed insane engine cubic capacity increases.

I was putting out treatment in perspective, do not take my comments as criticism of Rodders (I was really in to Rods and old fashioned Drag Racing in the 1960s....I have no axe to grind!)

Yeeeaaah Dig??

Yes I took a fair few (as a bit of bait for my own engine conversions  ) but I *still* haven't been given the CD with all the pics on! Grrrrr.... Yeah you wouldn't think it was that hard to take the pictures off the memory card thing and copy to a CD :?:

Yes, it just SEEMS like that.....talk to a rodder and you'll quickly learn the truth. Believe me, they have just as many hurdles to jump as a mini-modifier, if not more.

Running without cycle guards is illegal. Rodders know this...some just choose to run the gauntlet.

They are "allowed" to because they fought for it and appropriately have to compensate for larger capacity by increasing braking capability.

Never would take it as criticism. There's enough of that WITHIN the ranks of hotrodding to worry about what comes from other movements. I'm merely pointing out that there's more than meets the eye with hotrodding. I love hotrodding as much as I love minis. We're a very diverse bunch.....and very open-minded. Would love to see what you built in the 60s!!
