just seems to me that they have a pretty free rein with what they can build engineering wise
Yes, it just SEEMS like that.....talk to a rodder and you'll quickly learn the truth. Believe me, they have just as many hurdles to jump as a mini-modifier, if not more.

just pointing out the stupidity of allowing cycle guards or no guards
Running without cycle guards is illegal. Rodders know this...some just choose to run the gauntlet.

Similarly, we get grieve if we put larger engines (and there is formula of something like 50% increase) where Rodders are allowed insane engine cubic capacity increases.
They are "allowed" to because they fought for it and appropriately have to compensate for larger capacity by increasing braking capability.

I was putting our treatment in perspective, do not take my comments as criticism of Rodders (I was really in to Rods and old fashioned Drag Racing in the 1960s....I have no axe to grind!)
Never would take it as criticism. There's enough of that WITHIN the ranks of hotrodding to worry about what comes from other movements. I'm merely pointing out that there's more than meets the eye with hotrodding. I love hotrodding as much as I love minis. We're a very diverse bunch.....and very open-minded. Would love to see what you built in the 60s!!
