Ok went and grabbed some of the brake parts and took a snap.

Also I checked the car, there doesn't appear to be a spacer. Just a hub. I'll jack the car up and unbolt a wheel to have a proper look later, too hot right now!

Also I have sexy stainless steel braided brake hose which came with the car (bought brand new in the UK) but I have a funny feeling they won't be legal. :(

From your pic, I don't think those ones are legal. I think the ADR'd ones have yellow tags with the manufacture date on them, but don't quote me on that ;)

The swivel hubs on the car seem to be normal Mini drum hubs but the steering arms look funny (Metro, anybody??)

The swivel hubs in the bin are Metro items.

Those brake lines could be passed if the engineer accepts them, but he would be stupid to if they are not ADR compliant.......I will check mine when I get home.

The gap between the adapter plate and the disc face seems to be non-existent - do they touch?

No they don't touch, very small gap though. They were professionally made (obviously) and designed. We'll see what happens, if all goes dodgy, I have Metro hubs to play with.

Quick update. Over the looooong summer holidays I got a huge amount of body work done, learnt to mig weld and had a lot of fun.

I sent my motor and a subframe off to Ben (92 on here) for some surgery and got it back yesterday. It's a work of art I reckon!

Although I haven't been on Ausmini much, or to any Hotbricks meetings recently, I'm still very much into Mini's, just with uni (started my Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering at Adelaide Uni) and work I don't find a lot of Ausmini time.

I've got some holidays coming up (6 weeks into uni and now we got a 2 week break...cool) so I'm going to test fit the engine and frame, chop and cut as much as necessary and then get the frame powdercoated, silver probably.

Any chance of some pics of the subframe from other angles?

Other angles?

Yeah sure, I realised after posting that 90% of the work is forward of the suspension towers.

When I find the time, maybe tommorow, I'll take some more photos otherwise Thursday probably.

Also I should say that the engine is mounted in such a postion as to give equal length drive shafts with my equaliser shaft from a 4AGE 20v (I think) motor. :)

Took the motor off the 'frame today then took the existing subframe out of the 'shell. Most of the front of the 'frame is bolted together to make it easy for installation (luckily for me), so I test fitted the 'frame minus all the extra bits and found where I need to bend and cut. Marked it then took the 'frame out again.

I whacked it back together again for some photos though.

Also, a pic of the equaliser shaft and bracket to hold it there.

What's the rationale behind having the subframe bolted to the towers vs welded to them?

Pretty much that^^^

Having said that, I didn't make the frame. However if the frame didn't come appart, I would have had to guesstimate where to cut etc to make it fit.

But since it unbolts I put the back half in, marked where the cutting (the radiator shroud) has to be done, also some good ol' hammering needs to be done to some areas but otherwise it's a nice fit with mods being all of the 'can weld it back in to make it original easily again' - but the subframe is Starlet for life! 8)
