Hi

I'm trying to rebuild an old mini and am having problems getting the engine to start. The problem seems to be from the carburettor onwards (as opposed to fuel line/pump problems). I have tried pouring fuel into the carbie, and it does get through to the engine but it still will not start. I have checked the spark plugs and distributor and they are working fine. There is a slight loss of pressure in two of the cylinders but been told that this would not be the source of the problem.

can anyone help?

Check the timing - rotor in the distributor pointing to 2 o'clock with #1 cylinder TDC and flywheel timing marks at 1/4

Whether it is obvious or not, check you have good fuel, mot what was left in it 30 years ago.

I would go with checking the timing on the dizzy like said make sure rotor button is at #1 Cylinder lead when #1 is on compression stroke.

Put your suburb in the profile and maybe someone living close by could have a look at it for you.
