Is there anything anyone can say here that will make your mind up definitely?
Theres pros and cons of each setup.
Do you have the money to upgrade? A cheap set of 13s will set you back maybe $100 per tyre and $100 for rims (all new). A better setup would be rims and better tyres than cheapies, but may also include guard cutting, flares, brakes (if you're still on drums get discs).

When I decided to go 13s on the project car, I've also put in replacment cones, hi-los, new balljoints, disc rotors, drums, pads, wheel bearings, suspension rubbers, and the bearings in the raduis arms. Ditched the old shocks too, and fitted an adjustable rear end. Originanally I rebuilt tome 4 pot vented brakes, but didnt use them in the end.

Nothing I replaced was done because it was stuffed outright, would've been fine for the old ten inch wheels or even 12s, but for the jump to 13s I thought with all the extra weight and offset of the wheels I'd be better starting with a new setup so I can better gauge how it degrades over time.

For the mini driven more regularly, I run 12s with 145s. Cheap, light, look good, no crazy guard work or expensive arches. It just makes more sense to me that way.
:D

not worth it, gotta cut the guards, it adds more unsprung weight and tyres are more expensive.

12's are probably the best way to go with a street mini.

show me the wheels first and Ill tell you if its worth the expence or the time
The 12's may only need a good clean up rather the expence and time. You don't get any driving benifit from going from12's to 13 if not backwards. Just more pain or looks

the grass isnt greener

there are some advantages in the low profile tyres cornering

but they're outweighed by the increased weight

you can run 13's without cutting the guards if you run the suspension height really high which looks stupid

i cant dump my mini with 13's too low or it scrapes on driveways and bigger bumps/corners

My mini has 12's and fairly low profile tyres, and it rides about as low as i'll let it... (it wouldn't pass a road-worthy), but I reckon you'd like the look i've got... it only ever scrapes when i have a passenger and I am being silly.

seriously, 12's are fine just lower the car and make the front slightly smaller profile than the back... (I didn't just say that as i think it is illegal)

You are talking about going to 13x7's (Commonly the deep dish variety)

They look good, but look at the overall cost - they'll set you back at least ~$1400 including tires then you will need to cut your guards and get arches to suit.

It wont handle as well as it did on the 12's due to the increased weight and offset used to fit them and it will be slower to accelerate, you'll use more fuel and it wont go as fast top end either. Wheel bearings will also wear out faster.

keep your 12's but clean them up...re paint the inside section and really bling the deep dish and outer sections. A lick of paint and a blinging does wonders

I ave 13x7's on mine (my brothers  )

I found when I had 12's on them to get it through blue slip that it handled better. It was alot light in steering and smoother on the road.

The thing I like about my fat wheels though is it looks like it will eat you.

From some perspective it looks weird when you go from looking at a mini with 10's or 12's on it to looking at a mini with 13x7's. It looks like a child with shoes that are too big. But it grows on you and I like it.

I suggest, clean your wheels up first, put some tyre black on them, maybe paint them a different colour, and see how you like it then, before investing lots of expense in 13's.
