I was going to run twin carbs but I decided against it because a HS6 would more than meet the demands of an 1098.

I had a whole bunch of HS6's here so I scrounged through until I found a throttle shaft that was hardly worn at all.
I was going to go the whole hog on it ala Vizard but I took the advice of a certain engine tuner and kept it simple. I did 2 things though. I cut the butterfly shaft in half, counter sunk the screws and loctited em in there. I was going to put a whopping great ram tub on it and a sock filter, but once again I took the advice of a certain engine builder and just put a radius on the carb mouth. I dont have a lathe to spin it is so I had to do it Ghetto style with a die grinder and a flap wheel. I doubt the throttle shaft mod will produce any better results. I just wanted to touch things.

This is a photo of the throttle shaft. I also cut the dags off the screws underneith.

This is what a radiused carb mouth looks like
Image

To top it off I picked up this bling filter from lynx.. good website :D
Image

I got rid of mechanical pump on basis of it being 30+ years old.
I chopped up an old clutch cover and made a blanking plate. I was going to bling it but its all getting painted anyways.
Image

I picked up a nice facet fuel pump(tough as nails)
Image

I want to keep the engine bay nice so I will mount one of these filters between the tank and the pump. its an EA falcon one, its bloody huge and only costs $11. Plus I like the way it looks.

Dont like the facet fuel pump, had one mounted at the front and was a pathetic sucker, it then died in about 2 weeks. Got a replacement, mounted it in the rear, and although works its makes more noise than the donk (I even mounted it on a rubber pad). the noice3 is variable though. surly there is a better pump that will give 3.5psi.

I've had one in my car for over 14 years and it's still fine, it feeds a 45DHLA Dellorto no problems.
All I've done is change the Purolator filter gauze twice.
Noise? Mount it properly and you won't hear it at all with the engine running. I mount them on a Mini centre exhaust mount, that shuts `em up good.
I like them so much, I have another on the wife's 1293 (twin HS4s), and one more going in the 1412 van.... :D

SU pumps? No thanks I've had my share over the years. :!:

I rigged up the fuel pump and ran some fuel through it to clean out the lines. It pumps a bloody lot of fuel I reakon 600ml in maybe 2 minutes. Thats plenty good for what I need. They dont suck very well but they push fine. Its not that loud either sounds like the air pump in my fishtank.

The Facet pumps are not designed to suck fuel from the tank up into the engine bay.
But down the back, gravity fed, they work just fine. 8)

I decided to use a minispares.com manifold. They are really cheap. I know they are not as good as GR's but I am going to mod the firewall and stick as many spacers as I can. This will bring the volume up a bit and should help flow. I gave the manifold a good grind as per Vizard. It seems to have opened up more of a direct route to the intake ports....maybe

Image

Next was the dizzy. I pulled the shaft and bob weights out of a D4R85 and sent em to GR. He painted it in pretty colours and sent it back to me.(he actually limited the max advance and tested in on his dizzy machine)
Image
The advance plate was virtually siezed so I pulled the whole thing to bits and greased it all up. I had my local guy machine a couple mm off the drive dog as it was a bit tight.
Image
I cut the adjuster tab off and shaped the body of the dizzy with a burr so the clamping plate fitted nice.
Image

While I was robbing other makes I grabbed a Gemini starter. I was pleased to find that it was a reconditioned item. I was cranking my engine over tonight to get the oil pressure up and it was awesome. heaps of grunt. Kinda boring but in this photo you can see by how much I had to lengthen the slot. Alot more than I thought.
Image

I wanted to upgrade my oil system. I got a new oil pump and got rid of the crappy banjo pipe. Kev made me up this bling pipe. Its pretty fat and is good quality.

Image

I had my radiator cut up and cleaned. It ended up costing me about $150, I may have been better off buying a new one?
I pinched this overflow tank off a Jag or a Merc at UPULLIT. I wire brushed it coz the paint was flakey but I will more than likely paint it again.

Image

And lastly as far as the important stuff goes, the exhaust. It is a good second handy I picked up from Brickworkx. Nice pipe really, 1 7/8 inch ID.

Image

and that in the words of my good friend Forest Gump, "is all I have to say about that"
:D

I wired it all up today. I cranked it for a while and I got 60psi of oil pressure. Thats probly a bit high because I caked the pump with vasaline. Once that melts it will probly come down again a little. It cranks over smooth :D
All I need is a stocking for the radiator and some nice new fuel and it should be running tomorrow.

It all looks good except your fan is on the wrong way.
The smooth side of the hub towards the engine.

I hit them in with a drift so tthey left a pretty big mark. I thought I didnt hit em hard enough. I just hit em as much as the ones on my other motor were hit. I have another set here so if you are confident they will leak I will change em.

Once you hit them past flat they start to get smaller again....
See how they go, they're all easy to change in the car.

My 1220 used to spin to 8500  but I'd keep his below 7000 if he wants it to last.
