Hi there,
Put the new (2nd hand) 1100 in yesterday, started it up and it ran OK for a while. The gearbox is rooted, 2nd gear crunches in both directions and jumps out

but its only a temp whilst I rebuild the original.
After driving for about 15 mins and checking everything is tight, retaining fluids etc, my Son took it out for the evening, got up the street and it died. Cranks, fires, runs for about 5 seconds, then dies. It used to do this intermittently with the old engine but would start up straight away and keep going.
OK, so I have done the following:
*Pulled out the 998, and replaced it with the 1100 purchased last week
*Used the twin SU's off the original motor
*Used the original Dizzy. The 1100 one had vacuum advance and the original doesn't. There's no vacuum advance take off on the twins.
*Used the original Coil as it was still wired up. Its a little plastic modern type. Not sure if I like it though.
When it stops, the Fuel Filter is still full of fuel, and having twins it shoould sorta run if one had a sticking needle and seat etc.
I'm not sure what to do next. I'll probably go and replace the coil with the one that came with the 1100 and see if that helps. I'll also take some wire and aligator clips and see if it could be faulty wiring.
I knew part of my Easter was going to be taken up with the Mini, but it's starting to look like more, if not all.
Gotta love cars eh?
Oh, No1 Son just called in, his Laser has no power and when the boost light comes on it sounds horrible.
If I sold all of my tools does that stop Children bringing their cars over?
