hey there, is there any way to tell if an 1275 A+ has an unleaded head without taking it off? I was told that it is from a late Rover, about '97 I think he said, engine no- 12A2EF77265256.
I always run BP ultimate in it.
Cheers

Casting number on head will be 12G940B.(up to 97)
or
if it is a 97 or later it will have an alternator mount of the thermostat end of the head

Rover started producing unleaded heads for the English market in 1989, and these were identified by a dab of green paint near the thermostat housing.

ok, the head has 12G940B on it I think, and looks like it has had a mount off it near the thermostat housing, but this could have changed when the altenator was put on it from my old 998? hmmm confused.
I think if it had had green paint on it it would have come off by now.
Does the build date, around '97 have any indication if its unleaded or not? ie, when where the majorirty of the heads unleaded?
cheers

According to my book, your engine is a very late rover engine, should defenitaly be unleaded.

Export (or Jap ones) don't have a green dot.
all Jap engines are unleaded i believe(from about 86)

If the head is off it's easy - just have a look for seat inserts at the exhaust valves.
