Considering that all it involves is dunking it in a tub of vinegar it is not too bad.
You could clean it up in five minutes with a wire wheel but you still have to pull wires out of your shirt and sweep the floor, this is simple and easy as long as you have a week spare to do it. :D

Really you should just build the electrolytic rust removal tank. That works brilliantly, it takes hours instead of days or weeks. And it's probably the cheapest to use anyway, as long as you have a few of the parts already kicking around. It's the best way to remove rust (other than cutting it out with a plasma cutter, lol).
