Hi Guys

This would be easier to explain with pics, but I don't have any, so words will have to do.

The temperature sender for my temp gauge is broken. I don't know what type it is called, so I will try to explain it. The part from the block to the gauge looks like coiled wire, and it has snapped of where it enters the fitting into the block. Does this make sense?

Where can I get a new one, and whats it called?

Does the wire from the dash to the sender in the block look like it ends with an electrical connection (like a spade connector) ?

Or does it just bury itself in the sender like it was made with it as one unit?
If it does the broken 'wire' will be hollow.

From your description it is a capillary type. It's actually a tube filled with ?? which expands up to the aftermarket gauge and operates it much as a mechanical pressure gauge works.
It really is a part of the gauge, you will probably need to buy another.
These are more accurate than most electric gauges but the latter are easier to hook up, and less fragile.

it doesn't have a connector, it just goes straight into the fitting. Here is a pic.

It goes into a smiths gauge. Don't really want to change it, would like to replace this wire thingy if possible.

Instrument repairers can repair/refill and recalibrate them for you pretty easily. it will cost about 150 dollars however...

Might be cheaper to get a repro smiths gauge with the exchange rate tickling the underside of 50 cents to the pound at the moment...
