Thanks guys,

Very useful. Given that I have some angle rather than strip available, I think I'll try something like Docs.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Cheers

Kev, mine was made from scrap, that's why it has holes in the ends..
All you need is a piece of angle, and a U bolt or similar.

i went to supercrap and bought a set of trailer brackets. Cut one leg off both and drilled a hole to suit the size ubolt. I attached them on 2 & 4 with a bit of chain and lifted from that using my right biceps muscule, well maybe it was pulling the chain attched to the pulley.... I ended up using one to put the engine in and it worked a treat. Easy and cheap to make, rather than having to weld anything up.

Cheers

Aaron

Neat Doc, so what do you use the ears on the lifting bracket for???

skssgn :!: ....I think 6 lifts might have been enough....look how flattened your U Bolt is.....might pay to whack a bit of reinforcing around it!!

LOL - you've never seen a steering rack U bolt - trust me, it's meant to be that way - I don't think any U bold would flatten like that without something very very abnormal going on...

angus, the other two are my 6" flat screwdriver, and my torque wrench ;)

I don't like using the head studs, cos I sometimes need to lift or remove a motor without wanting to re-torque the head - and I get nervous about breaking them....

As I said this bracket was made from scrap. It used to be a lift bracket in the roof of my neighbour's garage.. 20 years ago!
Actually a bit of BIG angle would be the go- 2 holes for the studs, grind to clear middle stud, drill or burn a hole in the top leg of it for the hook!
I'll stick to using the U-bolt- it's quicker to weld things than cut big holes..

That's pretty much what I will go with, angle and a D shackle piece welded on. I did'nt want a real big piece of angle though coz I was worried the thread on the head studs isn't that thick to take up the thickness of the angle.

gosh, i just used some rope and wrapped it around the engine at both sides and then tied knots in it and used a block and chain.

Yeah we all did that once upon a time, but if you make a habit of pulling 'em out, a bracket is a handy piece of gear. Safer too..

Well,

I built my engine lifting bracket tonight. Have taken some photos but have yet to conquer FTP'ing to host the photos.

After I get that sorted, I'll post some photo's.

What do you guys use for FTP to servers?
I'm with bigpond and want something as simple to use as possible!

Knocked it up last night, will let you know how it goes when the engine comes out (hopefully the weekend).

I use WS_FTPLE. When you install it choose the options to say your a teacher at a school using it for work at school as it's a "Limited Edition" it's free as long as you choose these options otherwise it won't install. Simple and easy to use.
