Nice work. 8)

It's been a while in the making, I bet you're happy with the progress!
It'll be nice to see how this set up comes together once it's all tuned.

When will you have it all sorted then?? :D

Hi all, I've been flat out with work the last couple of weeks so the Mini has been on the backburner. I can now say that the car is at the turners and should now see things speed up a little bit. 8) :D

Ok so I didnt put any pics up that was because the fuel rail started to leak agen so was not a happy boy. :x We rewelded it that day but it was still weeping. With it being cheap cast alloy it just wouldnt weld happily so the disition was made for a new one to be made from extruded alloy and make billet ends. I was more then happy with the result but as always its the little unforseen thing that take the most time.

A few things got changed around the place, a 4 core radiator went in and the mechanical fan got taken off, the super charger pulley was changed for its little brother to limit the boost to around 7pis (for the first lot of turning to make it a it a bit safer as it was making 5psi free revving in neutral and 10 psi by 1500-1800rpm and 12psi beyond that  ), heat rapped the LCBs and a lot of tiding up of the whole car. Still a LONG way off tidy but better. Got some yummy new shoes for her as well. 8)

I will try and get same video of it on the dyno as its getting tuned. I'm hoping for around the 70hp mark which I think is more then achievable in its current state, low boost and still with the small 998 head. It made 62HP at the wheels before with the SU and when it had a SW5 then it now has the SW10 injection and the coil packs so shouldnt be a problem. But the next stage will be the fun part when the boost gets turned up and the BIG head goes on.

Small head

New head but chambers still need doing

Just a bit Different

The really good thing with it was that it makes to much power down low, so even though that the peak power is not that impressive when you look at the power cove it's very cool.

(Heater hose now run proply)
Im a very happy with how it is all loking now even with its fully sick pod filter 8)

Thanx Nathan

Hi, just a quick update. The Mini got delayed a little bit in staring to get tuned, because of how busy the tuner is ATM. (always a good thing tho)

It has now begun getting tuned we were working on it till midnight the other night  (started at 6pm) and in that time, set the timing up, you can now walk up to it and turn the key to start her. The Haltech is doing, starter priming, all the fast idle and enrichment things when the motor is cold and slows the revs down as it heats up, very cool

It's incredible the spark the coli packs put out so much bigger and stronger. The base map has all but been done now, which is basically the no load map so you can free rev and idle away haply. 8) We have got the idle down to 900RPM which with the SU you could do but wouldn’t like to hold it and coming down from revs, slowing down to stop and would stall most times. (was idling at 1300 to over come this  ) It will now rev right up and down in neutral and not stall. Since it is running close loop idle control it continually adjusts the idle speed to hold it weather you load it up with head lights, even take off with no throttle ect..

As a side note the spark plugs are all identical colour, even more so the with the SU. So doesn’t appear to be charge stealing. The Haltech Wide band o2 sensor and controller I fitted is within 0.1 AFR with the proper dyno wide band, so that is very good. 8) It has a display on the dash so you can keep an eye on it, and the Haltech will data log it with load, RPM, air temp and any other inputs it has.

Power tuning is staring tomorrow so will update when I find some reading out, can't wait to get it back. :o I will try and take the video camera down and film some power runs.

Thanx Nathan

That's some good power at the wheels and that power err.. line is bloody straight, even for a supercharger  Good work 8)

Mine idles (at the emoment due to cold whether) around the 500-900 rpm mark, depending on how cold it is (that's where the computer is handy hey!), but only stalls below about 450rpm idle on deceleration. My butterfly has a little valve in it which open under deceleration giving a bit more air, makes the rpm drop slower, and doesnt go down so far therefore stalls a lot less. The valve is for emmissions purposes I think, happened to be in one of my HIF6/HIF44s.

In summer it'll idle around 1500rpm in the current state but I'll drop that then.

Anyways....Sounds like a good setup, good on ya.

Well it’s about time I did an update a lot of things have been happening with my mini. First I don’t necessarily think that the dyno graph was 100% correct, but it was a very linear power from the word go, so I would be inclined to think that it was a very flat torque curve. If it was or wasn’t correct then that’s cool if not doesn’t matter as it’s not on the car anymore and the SC12 carby kit has all been sold now so a fellow Ausmini-er. We learnt lots of little setup things doing it was it was good from that aspect if nothing else. :)

ATM the car is running with a Weber on the old motor while the new motor and supercharger gets finished off. Not that I have been driving it much, I got over it and gave it to Beanie to drive. :P

To start with it is a completely new 998, I was very close to doing a 1293 but this seemed more fun and win more pub points.

The block is a 998 block hot tanked, new cam bearings, pocketed to take a 12g940 head, .100" over size, centre main strap and will be 11 studded. It had No 4 bore sleeved as in a previous life it lunched a piston and surprisingly went unnoticed and still ran fine and even raced several times in improved production as it was.
ImageImage

The crank has been wedged, winged away from the conrods, ground .010"\.010" and nitrated.
ImageImage

Conrods have been polished, shot peened, big ends resized, new little end bushes, ARP bolts and check for straightness.
Image

Pistons are .100" over Hypatec with Teflon buttons instead of the circlips.
Cam and Timing gear is from Swiftune, it will be running a SW5 cam and their Alloy Duplex vernier timing gear set.
Image
Flywheel is an MED ultra-light steel flywheel assembly with a AP Bonded clutch plate and a Grey dot diaphragm.
ImageImage
ImageImage

With all new bearings, etc and all balanced of course.
Head is the A+ 12g940 I had that never got put on. It now has been extensively ported and is waiting to build the short block so we can work out how big the chambers need to be. Looks like 27.5-ish cc.

It will be breathing through a M45 Eaton supercharger off of a Bini. This is mounted up the front and will blow throw an intercooler then for the time being a metro turbo plenum and HIF SU.
Ignition will still be with the coil packs as it was with the E8 ECU.
Gearbox will be the current rebuilt A+ box I have with the Quaife ATB diff.

I will add more pics when things happen a bit quicker but this won’t be until I finish off the pull down of the Melbourne Motor show next week. Thanks Nathan.

cryptic question, as someone who spent lots of time and dollars at rpm with my series 4 (a previous life)....

who's doing the tuning? Adrian, Clint or Steve?

Big spec list and $$$ :D but it's not a real 998cc engine   sounds like it will be better than the old lump anyway, can we expect 100BHP at the treads :P ?
