Wombat,

See the thread entitled "Best Method". This is exactly the question I asked before making one myself last week. I can measure mine and post tonight when I get home. It was just a bit of angle iron cut and drilled in the right spots, with a D bolt shackle welded on for the loop. A few other people posted with other options also.

Kevin.

I'm very much an amateur in the garage but this is the one I made last week with rough dimensions. If you have the Mini handy it's quite easy to drill the holes; if it doesn't quite fit, go up 0.5mm in drill size or file it a bit etc

As you will see the D shackle is welded offset towards the flywheel end (it mounts back to front on the head compared to the photo)

Now the engine's out, I might even sandblast and paint the bracket!

Hope this helps
Kevin.

Kevin, nice work, how is the balance of the motor with the dimensions of your bracket? Steve

Pretty good - the Doc gave me the heads up about offsetting it towards the flywheel 8) (I would have welded it centred!) . It was pretty much level coming out. I didn't have the radiator on but that wouldn't add too much weight to throw out the balance I wouldn't have thought. I made it out of scrap I had in the garage so if it didn't work, I could always start again.

Pretty simple to make. Cut some angle, drill it. Carve out the centre bit to clear #3 stud (counting from the radiator side), then weld a hook on (or get someone to if you don't have a welder).

In my case I got a D shackle and hacksawed the eyelets off before welding it on.

Wombat,
Stick weld is stronger weld than a baby MIG one , on angle iron and round bar..! You don't want it to come off..

BTW Kevin I would weld right round yours, don't just tack it...

Doc, I'll bow to your greater experience and have another go at it. I did get pretty good penetration though (oooaahhh). It's pretty much welded all around the "shafts" I'll post a close up shot tonight for the gang to critique.

Anton - Yes I made it myself and I'm a Food Scientist!!

Edit - I use a Transmig 130 I bought about 10 yrs ago.
