Just make sure you get a good quality
oil filter spray supercrap sells a good spray for a good price, don't use the filter dry, its wont last long and its harder to wash out in soapy water, which is all you have to do, with oil it will last for years without having to change as long as you wash it regularly.

is that an air pressure sensor on the intake?

i'd prefer to find a k&n element for the stock box

I'd also like to keep the stock air cleaner, I think it looks better than the chrome K&N job.
But if I can get a few more ponies and a nicer sound with the K&N then I better order one:D

It's the box that's the problem.

Replacing the filter only will do sweet FA.

If you wan to keep the stock box your only option is drill a rather large amount of hole in it......I'd only do this if I had a spare box.

I bought mine purely for improved performance, how my engine bay looks isn't of any concern to me, the less time I see my Mini with it's bonnet up the better.

It HAS to be better than the stock intake ? surely ??

Holy crap, it certainly is.

This, combined with new leads has made one hell of a difference.

3000+ RPM and you can tell the difference, the sports cam loves the increased air flow.

Sports cam? What sports cam did you get? (ears perk up!)
Where and how much?

I would disagree - originally, my cooper would not rev passed 4k and with the 57i fitted, it will happenly go to 6+ ( more probebly but don`t want to work the motor to hard ) It revs quicker and more freely and feel alot more perky so i would say it really does improve overall performance.

Next step is a good quility LCB

I've heard from a few people in the past that the best power gain comes from fitting an aftermarket element (eg K&N or whatever) into the STOCK airbox.
Anyone compared that to the replacement unit before?

actually i have - Its been said before ( Mini Mags - Kieth calver ) that the best combo is the stock box with a K&N eliment and holes cut in the side to increase airflow. I tried that already and liked that set up but after trying all three, i think this is the best set up so far. Sounds the best which for me is 50% of the reason why ;-)
