Interesting article that tests the (false) economy and power benefits of e10 v unleaded v premium.

Another reply from the manufacturer of the carby kit, they say that the hose was rated for 91-95 octane fuel. The manufacturer of the hose has never had any problems with the hose getting brittle and spliting.

But they said that E10 or 98 octane fuel could be a problem. So they are testing a bit of hose in ethanol to see what happens.

They are going to report back to me. :D

Would this kit be the Fuel Miser one??
I've used these with 98 and 95, never had a problem.

It just means that we will have to work our way through the car as things stuff up and find replacements.

Hopefully the car doesn't catch fire during this process.

But at least with E10 it will be better for the environment as it burns to the ground.

Heya Wombat (le pharmacist extraordinaire), can we crack this E10 stuff and take the ethanol out? Then we can drink it, and the cars will run fine, no more problems.

Could we turn the ethanol into hydrolastic fluid and solve two problems? 8)

I bet you strain your Brasso for the alcohol right?

BTW, Isopropyl alcohol and orange juice do not make a nice drink. Don't ask me how I know...

I have had another small fuel leak in the car since the single tank of ethanol, I don't know if it it related to the fuel or not but I suspect that it is.
The mechanical fuel pump started leaking from the screw in the middle of the top cover. It just took a little nip with a screwdriver to tighten it up and stop the leak.
Under the screw is a fibre washer, under the top cover is a gasket. I would guess that either the washer or the gasket have shrunk a little from the fuel.

I guess it is a matter of keeping an eye on everything to see what leaks next. :?

I did a fairly disorganised economy test with my employers 2000 petrol Pajero

empty trailer to Melbourne - 360km - 3/4 of an 80 litre tank of E10
full trailer from Melbourne - 340km - 2/3 of same 80 litre tank of 92

What are you going to do when all petrol is E10? It may happen.
