OK, need to source that from somewhere, Davo111's site has them thicker but I guess you dont want it too wide or it will be too big for the filter and likely to come off. Is the neodymium part right or just any type?

Make sure they are neodymium (aka rare earth). Std magnets do not have the oomph to penetrate the case and hold the swarf.

Cheers, so any one that is neodymium and 10mm min thick, doesn't matter if disc or rectangle. Maybe rectangle sits flatter on the filter, longer but narrow. Sorry to make this simple thing so complicated, just wanted to know what the go is before I fork out any $$$. I will put one on each side of the filter and then see how much it picks up next oil change.

Maybe this one

50 x 20 x 12.5 mm @ $34.63, not cheap but then an engine rebuild is dearer.

Yep grab one of those and it'll cling to the side of the filter like a Limpet mine. 8) One is plenty.

For those interested and who that suggested the "rare earth" magnets I purchased 1 for each of my cars today from "Aussie Magnets" in Camberwell melbourne. The most suitable size I found up against an actual mini oil filter was $30 per magnet. And considering I had no true understanding of the power of these magnets, it was unblvble !, As I said I purchased two, I pulled them apart to show a friend and as I pulled them away from each other, they snapped back, I have a blood blister on my finger like I hit my had with a hammer, I'm a 30 yr old healthy male and it seriously takes two hands and a extreamy good grip to pull them apart from each other, And I you have any doubt about it pulling the "swarf" through a filter housing, go buy two magnets and put them together and you understand..... Well worth $30 for an additional piece of "oil insurance" for your motor ( my last motor costed me about $10k), Worth a try !
Thats my opionion anyway, Cheers

Keep these magnets well away from your credit cards... unless you want them wiped for good.

If you cut a filter up after a thousand miles or more with these magnets on, you will not believe all the stuff these things collect.
Filters do not stop everything, any particles smaller than around 50 microns just go round, and round, and round... unless a magnet catches them.

<edit> typo

After I paid the lady in the shop I put the two magnets in my R/H/F pocket and as was about to put my wallet in my R/H/R pocket, the lady suggest that i carry my wallet to my car in my LEFT hand.... she wasn't smiling either !, She was serious !......... I guess its safe to assume that the magnets probably work........
