A machine is only as good as it's operator. :) :)
I just love the diamond impregnated ceramic tips. I use them to machine down hardened surfaces that needle roller brgs run on. Do not chip them, they are around $250 each.[definately not chinese crap.]
You can use them on any lathe, slow speed and feed and plenty of soluable oil

Did you think it was hard material?
Maybe the one I did was an exception it was as hard as hell!
Dave

It was tough, not that hard. Slow and easy, with some cutting oilz...

Hey Dave do you need a cheap milling attachment for your Myford?
I have one, hardly used, not being used any more (I bought a mill).
It bolts on where the toolpost goes.

I don't need one thanks, I got a hafco mill/drill and a hafco lathe. It's the only new machine I could find that was set-up for imperial . Just can not get used to this new fangled metric system. young steve has bought him-self a small hercus lathe so I will ask him. I am teaching him machining  Blind leading the blind
There are a few others on ausmini that have lathes, one of them might be interested.

Hey Wombat,If some one or your self can give me the dimensions that you need to machine the shaft to, let me know. I have a few spare shafts and I can machine one and send it to you

The "hardness" of these spindles varies, no idea why. My machinist found this out recently when he did 3 for me, there was a notable difference between them. He does them in his lathe.

OK Wombat,
to fit these +.100" GR flat top 1098 pistons (which don't have undercut skirts like normal 1098s) the dizzy driveshaft needs to be turned down to .350" diameter and relieved a bit at the top end radius.
GR usually sends a modified shaft up when people buy these pistons and get a block bored- but somehow you missed out.
When it gets here I'll take it to GR's and machine it.
