barely tougher than a potato crisp,,, more like a thick Pringle :-)

You can`t miss the ones that have been hardened too,,,, they are`nt shinny anymore, they go a grey-ish dull colour,,, steer clear of them

Edit,,, Oh & it`s not just that the front pulley comes loose & can wreak havoc on your fan blade,,, wrecking the crank key & possibly the crank in the process,,, but you will have a few pieces of old steel shim metal flinging around in your gearbox too :-)

Yummy tell your mummy :-)

OK gang, where's the cheapest place to get a new Romac balancer? (steel one will do me)
And, are they better for my peaky 1360 than getting an old one re-rubbered by Ross Tuffbond?

Romac are one of the very best balancers around (in my opinion) & JP bought them out but they have kept them as a seperate business

I`m buying a bundle for both myself & a few overseas customers soon if you`d like to tag along?

Just got my new alloy/steel one (ROMAC Part # 239SA)

Boy is it light, and shiney too 8)
Must be half the weight of the original, and excellent build quality.

Weighed it, it's only 840g as opposed to the 1440g of the original.
That's a 42% weight saving, mostly at the outside :D

The bad part is, it won't fit onto the crank - too tight!

What should the larger diameter of the taper be on an original pulley?
The old one is 25.68mm, the new one is 25.18mm
Should I just linish the outer edge so I can at least get it started and then pull it on with a bolt?

It's wrong, or your measurements are.
Crank nose is 1.000" (25.4mm).
If smaller than this, I'd ring up and have a whinge to Romac...

1" was what I guessed it should be.

Using the calibrated digital vernier here at work I get:
- Old pulley 25.88 tapering to 25.44mm
- New pulley 25.38mm

The crank has a few marks on it, so I will just linish it the best I can & draw the new pulley on.
